I'm not alone in admiring GM's new line of trucks. By the usual measure—total deliveries to customers—they haven't sold especially well so far this year. Silverado sales fell 0.4%, to 202,151, and Sierra sales only rose 2.3%, to 64,639 units, in the first four months of this year.

But that's because GM has stopped pumping up the numbers with low-margin sales to rental fleets. Retail sales of the new trucks, the company says, are up. In fact, GM claims that during the first quarter of this year it gained four percentage points of market share in the full-size pickup segment against Ford (F), Toyota, and DaimlerChrysler (DCX).
That's a huge jump, and most of the gains are coming at the expense of struggling Ford. Sales of the Ford F-Series pickups plummeted 13.7%, to 228,343, in the first four months of this year. Meanwhile, sales of the Toyota Tundra were up 6.7%, to 43,386, and even Dodge's aging Ram pickups were up 1%, to 122,816.

I suspect that Ford's heaviest market share loss is in the light-duty pickup market, where the venerable F150 is getting thumped. But having to duke it out with a resurgent GM in heavy-duty pickups isn't making things any easier for Ford.
Thats 266,000 for General Motors and 230,000 for Ford.....Article dated May 8 2007.

Guess the point is that your ford is better.....

You do have the #1 highest selling truck.

My wife is somehow smitten with the Ford Freestyle/Taurus Wagon as a possible replacement for the Van.

:| in part cause it depreciated like a yugo. 2007 Leather clad, LTD versions with moon roofs, dual consoles, etc. with under 50k on the clock for under $13k just down the road, and plenty more if I'm willing to extend the search radius.

I'd rather put her in a hummer h3, but I think she wants to spend more money on the house than on her daily driver :|

WTF January 08? Wow you really must want this

Silverado Pickup Truck - 1500, 2500HD, 3500HD Models.Totaled together were not enough to bump the ford f150 from the top sellers spot.

Pick any month/year/week/day over the last 30 years and you will see the same, General Motors has always sold more trucks then ford.

Chad is combining the GMC and Chevy Truck models, as most folks - even die-hard GM lovers see little distinction, or need for the divisional break between GMC and Chevy under the GM Corporate umbrella.

Does this make you feel better?

Last year was a bummer for pickup trucks, but combined sales of the Silverado and Sierra totaled 846,805 units. Taken individually, the Silverado finished No. 2 last year behind Ford's F-Series full-size pickup, with sales of 636,069 units. The Sierra found 210,736 buyers. (Unlike GM, Ford has no full-size pickup other than the F-Series.)
So lets do some more math here for you.

846,000 General Motors Trucks (Thats 636,000 Silverados and 210,000 Sierras)
636,000 Ford Trucks

Do you want me to stop now or does ford still sell more trucks then General Motors?

I'm thankfull Ford has chosen to keep its' integrity intact and solve it's problems without burdening us in the process.

The F-150 attracted 473,933 buyers this year, making it the No. 1-selling vehicle for 2008--it's been the best-selling vehicle in America for 27 years running. The burden of proof is on you!

I'm talking about General Motors trucks which may come under different badges but are the exact same truck save for some different trims and grills for the last 30+ years which have continued to outsell the Ford trucks.

I don't understand why this is so hard to understand?

for me it's not hard at all, I understand, and agree with the logic.

the ford guys like the marketability of the "best selling vehicle" tagline I guess it makes them think they made a good choice buying the Ford.

*shrug*

I believe, that if you extend the sales volume to the sport utility lines of the yukon/tahoe, suburban, and cadillac lines that the sales gap is even bigger. all of which in some form or fashion are at least a partial derivative of the pickup truck lines.

I would venture to say the gap would be rather staggering. Considering they are all essentially the same vehicle one would have to admit GM has a stranglehold on the Light Truck and SUV market. But again for the Die Hard ford guys its tough to admit defeat.

NO don't stop . Try comparing 1500's to f150's, Not all the 1500,1500HD, 2500,2500HD, 3500HD Models that take residence under the GM umbrella. Or should I lump all the 150's,250,350's,450,'s into one?

It's not hard unless, as stated, you can't accept defeat.

GM is better.

I would like Ford pickups more if they didn't put half the engine under the fawkin dashboard. Feel free to look up the engine R&R proceedures for a 2003 F340 with a 6.8 gasser in it.

I have a 1994 Ford F350 with a 7.3 IDI turbo in it and I like it. It's got plenty of power, the engine is easy to work on and it doesn't have a bunch of expensive electronic bullshit.

Well when we get done arguing who is better just take a ride past the local emergency room and see what's coming to get you when it's truly a matter of life or death. I'm just glad to say next year when I buy my new ford, I won't be paying interest for a loan of my own tax money and my truck payment to boot. I find it comical how GM is soo good but they get the most of the welfare check.

If Ford hadn't already gone bankrupt a few years back they wouldn't have already started an action plan. That is the only reason that is keeping them from getting the same funding.

So what, Ford got a contract to build the Emergency vehicles...
