like it or not American manufacturing has to compete with the rest of the world. Blaming the consumer for buying a foreign product is stupid, farm boy stupid.

Those articles don't mean crap. Keep hand picking your articles to read what you want...

The article wasn't "hand picked" to suit my needs. I read it at about the time this thread was begun and it was somewhat pertinent to the topic. You guys all get your panties in to a bunch way too easily around here

Please never ever post up a Consumers Reports article again and use it as fuel for your argument. It is no secret that magazine is one of the most biased crocks of shit on this planet.

You're right, they still supply jobs to people that work here, but they greatly pale in comparison to the Big Three.

You're right, they do. But should foreign companies get an advantage from our government to do business here?

I'm not purely blaming the consumer, there is a lot of blame to go around.

Maybe not country wide, but in the Detroit area buying a Toyota or Honda and not supporting the community around you is probably not a smart idea, as the business you work for or run probably depends on a lot of auto workers paying you money.

I think it's time for someone to rid himself of that awful Chevy powered YJ.

I'll give ya fifty bucks for it, you can use it for a down payment on a Pathfinder.

see this is what got the US automakers into this mess. They never knew what they were missing until it was too late. Thinking people will buy their shit because its "american".

Now they have almost caught up (partly because Toyota Has fumbled a few times in the last couple of years), but to gain ground you have to be Better than your competition not almost equal or equal, but better.

My experience with foreign cars is mainly once they are 15 yrs old or older.

Parts are freakin expensive.
They rust out in Michigan just like American cars.
Old German cars are better than old cars from anyone else.
I can go to Parts Galore and get just about anything I need for a 20 year old American car, but the import section seems to be mostly 90's stuff.

In search of the better deal, Americans have killed nearly all domestic manufacturing outside of the auto industry. Find some domestic built consumer electronics. Hell, try to find domestic made plumbing supplies. Once we have run all production overseas, who will be able to buy these products?

Face it, not everyone can be a CEO, MD, or other 'professional'. Without blue collar workers actually making products, there is no real reason for a company to be headquarterd in the USA.

Third World, here we come!

I don't think I could have said it any better myself. This is what most people don't understand.
