So are they going to send a letter to the United States Army rangers and ask them to surrender the name 'RANGER' too!

Volkswagen did that a few years ago, went after anyone and everyone they could. Companies that had adds showing a old v-dub, with the front VW emblem had to edit out the emblem. Garages and sandrail shops were sued for emblem use in ads. The little garage here in Kalamazoo that works on the old one was sued for the emblem being used in their yellowpages ad. I personally know of 5-6 michigan shops that were sued. They all lost also.

I can't believe ford would flip the bird to the enthusiast sites.

It's been done before. Chrysler did it to protect their trademark with all of the MoPar magazine titles back in the '80s...

Mostly Mopar was a salvage yard near Oil City that specialized in Chrysler products. Their new name (after being beat up by Chrysler) is Mostly Mopower now.

And thats what pisses me off the most. Those sites are filled with the most loyal supporters of your product, why try so hard to alienate them? Stranger still, when Ford did the Fx4 trim option they (Ford Motor Co.) invited the owner of TRS to help test drive it!

Better change the name from "Ford Tech" to "Furd Tech" CC, that is if you want to keep your worldly possessions.

the problem w/ "enthusiasts" is that they dont really support the company. They dont buy or lease a new car every couple of years. They buy a new one once and keep it forever, or buy an old one (or many) locally and restore it. Neither does much to produce income for the company. The auto makers like the soccer moms and such that like to drive new every two. They are the ones the auto makers really care about.

the enthusiast (can) however be one of the cheapest forms of marketing for a private firm.

Love, or hate a car and one is sure to tell anyone far and wide about it.

View a car as an appliance to be traded in every 2 years? Well then anything on the road is a substitution...

http://www.therangerstation.com/foru...ad.php?t=32874

Wow, apparently due to ALL of the bad press Ford and Jim (the site owner) have already reached an agreement (hopefully). Apparently it was all over some older FORD tailgate lettering and some windshield decals that had a Ford logo on either side. Still kind of lame if you ask me.

So thats what the "trademark infringement" was on, and not actually the name "Ranger".
