All I know is that scram has tanked - was $270 a ton 6 months ago and now it's $40 per ton so Yes steel should be down.

No, it has not come down yet. We ordered a very large batch to get our price down some, but it is still high and probably will remain high from the rest of the winter. This is about $4k worth of steel.

well I just got back and for me it dropped some but not much. A 4x8x.125 sheet cost me $92.80 which is down from $98something and two sticks of 1.75x.120 wall dom cost me $65.52 for a 18' stick (I got two) and a stick of 2x3x.125 wall was $92 each for a 24'er. I got two of those also. Plus I bought a bunch of plate drops in various sizes from 15"x24" to 24"x69" all of which were a bit cheaper than last time I got some drops. I have no idea if the tube is a good price as I dont buy nearly as much of that as I do full sheets. Usually 4x10 or 4x12 of .25 and .188. I remember the good ol days when a 4x8 sheet of .25 would cost around 80 bucks. As of a few months ago it was up to 200ish and now its down to around 175.

I buy thousands of pounds of steel a week. It has come down from $.75/# to about $.58the last few orders. Stainless steel has dropped by almost half from its peak this summer.

MKR in saginaw. Used to get it from Rifkin but they quite their steel sales. MKR seems to be good as far as the people and decent on the prices. I buy quite a bit for a small time guy and Midland steel and Hirschfields (alro now) couldnt come close on price. Midland steel isnt too bad but they seem to take awhile to get stuff I need ordered that MKR has in stock or next day. Plus there price is too inconsistant and high for the amount I buy.

Talked to buddy this week that works for Harbor steel here on the west side. He told me that second week of Dec there should be a price drop. However the racks are full of steel that was made when prices where high and until they sell that the prices will be slow coming down.

Steel wholesale is coming down a lot from according to the general manager at Alro. They also have to watch there overhead now so the retail price will take a bit longer to drop but it will be dropping.

Don't know if anyone still cares, but here is what I've been buying steel for...

Structural (angle & channel) $.60/lb.
Tubing $.70/lb.
Steel plate $.60/lb.
Cold rolled bar stock $.85/lb.

Cut these prices by $.10-.20 per lb for orders over approx 500 lbs.

I saw prices begin to drop around November, but really drop in early January. Back in September/October, Tubing was going for $1.25/lb, plate was $1.15/lb and CRS was $1.25/lb.

Plate is still around .41 a pound for me. I usually get full sheets and a couple at a time though.

same here -

plate seems a little better than it was, but tube and structural products havent changed much. heard the other day of a price increase coming this spring, (unconfirmed) not much of a bump i dont think, but not going down either.

I'm curious where you guys are buying your steel from. I work for a metal fabricator and our steel prices have dropped almost 25 cents/lb in the past 6 months. Generally we order large quantities but even our small orders have dropped significantly from all of our suppliers.
