Default YJ Build (First One) Updated 5/12/13

Like the rest of the first timers this is going to take a while and I'm learning as I go. Got a 1991 yj frame and axles from gmotox(great guy to deal with). Frame had v8 mounts and some rough spots. Ground off mounts, front panhard bracket, intermediate member and rear cross member (you'll see why in the pics). Had it beaded then it went to a buddy of mine, who is a great welder. There we started repairs. The thin spots he burned thru and filled in with the mig. I went behind and ground them down. Cut out the split section in front of the front panhard bracket welded in a new pc. Welded back on brackets, crossmembers and stock motor mounts. Ordered the crossmembers from moparpartsamerica.com. Intermediate crossmember didn't come with back supports so we had to fab some. Overall, I believe the frame is stronger now then when it came from the factory. Got it back to my place and put on two coats of POR15.

All sand blasting to be done on this project will be done by SS Stripping in Sterling Hgts. Talk to Chris, great guy and will give you a good deal!!!!!

Decided to go with a 350. Used Advance Adaptors #713087. Here are some pics before cutting off the six cylinder mounts.

Engine came. It's a 355 tbi, full roller with vortec heads. I was told by the guy that built it he had one identicle to this dyno'd and it put out about 335 hp. Bought this as a crate engine from a guy in Texas. I got to pick what color I wanted it painted and what valve covers I wanted on it. Great price too.

Wow, very clean rebuild.

Pretty remarkable that you kept this project for nearly 5 years without selling it off as a whole or parts.

Went with a Dana 44 out of a scout. It's actually all together and mounted. 4:88 gears, Eaton Elocker, Moser shafts, Wilwood disc brakes, and wheel spacers to bring it to size. Project is almost done I should have it on the road by end of summer, hopefully. Just now getting around to posting pics. I've wanted to do this project for a long time and I have so much money and sweat in to this project I don't think I will ever sell it.

Used a 700R4 rebuilt by a local trans shop. Had it rebuilt way overkill, Kevlar bands the whole shot. Transfer case is from JB Conversions. 231 HD with the super short SYE with GM VSS. Traction bar is a TB500 from M.O.R.E. CV driveshaft is from CCI in Marine City. Lokar shifter for the 700 and the transfer shifter is from Novak Conversions.

Durango steering gear box conversion. Pressure hose was made at The Parker Store in Fraser, about $40. Rough Country steering box brace. Stainless brake and fuel lines from Inline Tube in Shelby Twp. Used the YJ brake line kit they sell only made a few very small modifications. Fuel lines are just a bigger size to get fuel to the 355.
