95 f150 rebuild-upgrade (Now a Cummins Diesel!)

I have a wonderful 95 f150 that is going to be the end of me, but it is soo much fun, I just can't stop!!!

Allright. I have a stock truck with the exception of a 4" rancho lift.
I am currently doing a 8 lug swap, since I keep breaking my axles.

Also, I just pulled the rad core support, since the radiator started leaking... and there was only 1/2 of the core support left.

so, new core support is here, but still waiting on the polyurethane body bushings to put the front end back together.

Pulled the 8.8 out the other day....

Surprise!!!!!

I have broken leaf springs!!!

Upon trying to remove the leaf springs, I have seen that there are holes in the leaf spring hangers and the shackes are thin as paper, so I guess I need to replace all of it.

Horray!

Leafs and brackets are ordered, as well as some chassis saver to stop the rust.

I'll keep ya posted

Chris

when i pulled apart my 92 f150 a few years ago to start my build, i had two good leafs left... just the mains! every thing else was broken, i was missing half of one of the leaf springs on each side!
It dosn't seam like its worth all the hassle but if you take your time and do it right it'll pay off...
I'm 2+ years in to my truck seance i parked it. And every day i think about just cutting the thing up and hauling it off to the scrap yard... but then i would a lost all my work!

well I got the new leafs from BDS last night and installed them today. could only find a 8.8 grade 16mm bolt for the front eyebolts. Probably could have waited till monday and went to fastenal, but not patient enough.
Speaking of paitence....
My new 12in 5/8 u bolts.... they were obviously too long.
I mean I don't need the lift blocks anymore, and the bolts weren't threaded down far enough.
I called planet power sports, and they could get shorter ones, but only in 9/16 and I would have to wait till monday to get em...

FRUSTRATION!!!!

so anyway, I threaded the bolts by hand. All of them. And my arm is friggin killing me!

The axle is on, and under the truck and the leafs are bolted up too.

Looks pretty good, but still have a long way to go.

Gotta do brakes, and shocks, and I need a custom driveshaft I think. Somone lied to me and said I could use the stock driveshaft if I lifted the truck. Total bullshit. I need to get rid of at least 3 inches. Might be because it is a 95 sterling 10.25 axle though.

anyway, been a long day, so I'm hittin the sac.

later

Is there anyway you can get a stock drive shaft from the truck you got the axle out of and use that with your stock yoke?

nah, workin on another route though.
Need some help rebilding my d50 center section, since I don't have shims or time...
boxing up my new ttb arms, hopefully they are a bit stronger and looking to get some q1a rod ends, since I keep killing tie rods.

Guess now would be a good time to replace the front fenders, since I allready have the core support removed and they are rusted through on the bottom.

so much needed to be done....

hopefully the rain will stop someday and i can get back to work on it.

as of right now, not a damn thing!
got a d44 ttb hybrid being built in the garage, and a 79, HP d44 8lug at a buddys, but thinkin, I still wanna find a d60 Hp for the front.
I am currently looking for a plasma cutter, so I can make some brackets and try some ideas out and see what happens.

It's getting through the floors and rockers of my 96 XJ finally

but it'll do the same to a kia/hundai in four years, lol... I see them like that frequently so I'm not bashing.

Went to pull the front fenders and replace them with new ones as well as a new core support. No biggie. I also covered the insides of them with chassis saver, so hopefully I will not have to replace them again, at least because of rust.

adding chassis saver

Anyway after a long day of painting the panels and letting them dry, I an honna hit em again tommorrow, and mabye assembe the front clip off the truck and prep it for pain and reassembly.

Well, i am seriously debating quitting after today.
With the fenders off I figured it would be a good time to fix all that exhaust noise that has been bugging me, and put on shorty heads while replacing the gaskets. Well 250k+ miles have certinaly taken their toll, especially being in michigan.
head bolts broke... lots of them using no more than hand tools.
2 were even broke off inside before I started and just fell off as soon as I put a little pressure on em.

so I had to pull the intake off to remove the heads. The engine was suprisingly clean inside (must be the synthetic oil) so no worries so far.

I pulled the heads off, and found that the block has been rusting into the heads. It didn't get in far enough to make it leak, but It is going to need to be decked to be flat again.

check out that exhuast leakage!
Well I'll get some more pics up tommorrow.
I am debating on what to do with this truck.

I have a good block on the stand in the garage, and a set of rings, bearings, and gaskets, but still need about $500 in parts.

I would like to put in a 393 stroker crank since I have a new set of 302 pistons and rings. Has anyone out there done this one?
Anyway, I am gonna pull the motor tommorw, and take a step back before I go blow a ton of money I do not have.
