Default B2 build up advise wanted

Hey guys, I have a 84 B2 I am slowly goin to turn into my new trail rig cuz my 99 Ranger just aint up to the job anymore. I am pullin most of my stuff off my Ranger for the B2 and will just daily drive the Ranger.

My B2 has a decent body and I just replaced all the floors. The motor and trans are Jasper remans with less than 6k on both so it runs like a champ....weak as hell but good runner anyway still pullin 18mpg.

I am lookin for some advice on what would be the best upgrades to do to my truck to make it a decent rig. I wont be doin any crazy mud bogs or runnin Moab anytime soon.I like to hit trails and the Mounds a few times a year so I just need it to survive places like that.No straight axle swaps or Dana60's.

So far I am planning on swapping my 16x8 Ultra wheels with 265-75-16 Buckshots to the B2,I will trim the fenders.

I am building my own winch bumper as we speak and will put my winch on B2.
It will get a CB,lites front and rear, remove rear swaybar,Rancho AAl off Ranger,I was lookin into a James Duff rear bumper with the tire carrier and one of his stage 1 or 2 lifts. And I will build my own sliders.

I am collecting parts to do a stock 5.0 efi swap. This I will need a lot of info on as far as hookin up trans,mounts,rads,etc....The 2.8 is just too weak and if I am swappin I aint gonna waist my time on a 4.0 when I could do a 5.0 just as easy.

So any tips, info or advice would be great guys!

Here is what I am starting with.

find a donor explorer and swap in the 31 spline 8.8 and TTB Dana35

make some extended radius arms and use either EB coils or XJ coils up front for max lift

What years are the best donors? How is the width on the 8.8 for the b2?

Whats a EB coil and are you talkin stock XJ coils or aftermarket?

91-94 are the only year explorer donors you can take both axles from

eb=early bronco=softer spring rate and better flex
XJ= depending on lift you want will determine what size coil and smae with the EB the xj coils are softer and flex better

If your going to wheel a few times a year then keep the stock axle in the truck. 4" suspension lift with some 31" muds will get u anywhere at the Mounds..except for the big mud pits. Thats about the cheapest way to do it, but if u wanna put more money into it do the d35 and 8.8 swap.

*I still got the Lund visor here..you were the guy interested in it right?

from like 2 something up to atleast 5.13's

i ran 4.88's in my old explorer sport on 36's Iroks, the 4.88's were considerably cheaper then the 5.13's. Depending on tire size you wnat to end up at will determine your gear choice, but you can find stock explorer axles with up to 4.10's in them. But finding a stock D35 pig with 4.10's is pretty hard.

I will only be using a set of 265/75-16 Maxxis Buckshots...just under 32".

With a efi 5.0 3.73's mite not be so bad...you think?

Please tell me these front 35's are stronger than the cv shafted 35 in my 99 ranger!

the D35 uses the same size ujoint as a D44 (use dana 5-760x ujoints), but you'll want to get the Warn Jeep hubs, the stock hubs are pretty weak, broke more then my share.

3.73 will do just fine with that combo, i have 3.73s in my 91 explorer and its on 4"s and 32s and it gets around just fine with the stock high mileage 4.0L and A4LD

mudder...sorry bout that,I am passing on the visor cuz my roof is too messed up from the last one getting ripped off so I am just tryin to get it to stop leakin now.

Well I put some real gauges in it this week since it started to bury the stock temp gauge for no reason. It goes from stone cold to 220 in about 2min.I put a new rad,t-stat and waterpump on the 2.8 the week before. Does that seem too hot? Anyway,I am picking up the pace on a 5.0 swap. Tryin to pick up a 96 Exploder 5.0 tomorrow just dont have a harness yet. Since my truck has the C5 in it I am hopin it will be an easy swap that will live a while. I have a c4 bell off a 70 Mustang to use but no converter yet. Prolly use stock shorties and I am hopin to use the stock motor mounts with a little work.

Here are my next round of questions.

Can I just go to a junkyard and grab a efi sending unit out of a 86+ bronco2 for my efi swap? Are all B2 tanks the same?Lines I will make myself.

My 99 Ranger has a Aussie Locker in the front D35.....could I swap it into a TTB D35?

And what Jeep hubs am I lookin for? I have seen some cheap Warn hubs for B2 on ebay, not good?

good luck on the Explorer 5.0 swap, only know one person to have done it and it was major work and a royal in PITA to get it wired and get the comp working with everything.

88+ sending units are better, 86-87 used two fuel pumps, the 88-90 used a single pump that puts out the same PSI as the explorer pumps

no, the aussie from a 96+ ranger will not work in a TTB

The jeep hubs are Warns, their just a stronger hub then the warn hubs for a D35, they are an exact fit just better, read my lilnk i posted earleir in the thread

The motor I am picking up is just a longblock. I plan to use all stock efi parts off a foxbody mustang. Not sure if I will go speed density or mass air ,that will depend on what mustang harness I find. I figure if I use a mustang harness I can put the ecm in the same location as mine and most of the wiring will just lay right into place.

I thought about just going with a carb to mke it easier but I dont have any intakes, carbs, dizzy or ignition parts. I have so many friends with Foxbodys they drag race the amount of free stock parts laying around is endless. The motor itself will be 75.00 and I can get intakes, injectors, throttlebody, fuel rail, egr, valvecovers, maf and bell for free. The only major part missing is a harness.

The 5.0 swap should be sweet if and when you gte through it, alot of ponies for a light vehicle, from what i have seen its a major pain though. depending on which trans you use i from what i have read, you will have to do a body lift but that should also allow the motor to fit better. also some year mustang motor mounts should bolt right up for you, 88mudder knows the specifics, im just recalling stuff from when i was planning a v8 swap into my old b2

yeah you either have to do a body lift or smash back some of the fire wall bronco sally has but 2 5.0 in 2 of his b2's its not to bad

Well since the hammer is my favorite tool I think I will skip the body lift.

I ended up helping a friend in a pinch saturday and in return he is giving me a 100% complete EFI 5.0 out of a 92 LSC Lincoln with 87k on it.Throttlebody to oil pan and fan to flywheel. Now all I need is a ecm and harness!

So other than the $200.00+ mounts everyone sells what are my other options on the cheap side?

I also scored nice new seats, center console and roof rack off a 89 B2 today.
