I think this is a problem if you want to use 4 wheel drive.

x2

i would hesitate to get this jeep unless its a really good deal and you know how to change one of those axles out to match the others ratio.

I would not give $8,000 for it.

that aint no 44 either... thats been on CL for months... price keeps going up and down, right now its at $10k I believe. Might be worth 2k with all the hacking together I have seen in the pics that have been posted over that time.

Edit: someone found it before me...$8k now

yeah i dunno, like i said, he just offered me. i figured some of you guys knew about it. and i also thought wtf about the different gear ratios in the differentials.

he emailed me a link to ebay where it is posted for $6,000.

It's worth more than my explorer so it's enticing for me.

anyone know what kinda issues id run into if i just needed to swap 4.10's into the front diff?

and u guys said its not a d44? someone mentioned in pm that it's an AMC 20 rear. is that an equally as strong rear end?

i think it "looks" decent...looks clean, i agree the flame bubbles are kinda funny lol, but aside from needed gears in the front diff...

AMC20 only good if it has 1 piece axle shafts, still a d44 would be worth more

i think im gunna meet up with the guy this saturday.

he told me the 4spd tranny IS a typo and it's the stock 3spd auto.

he claims the 4x4 works so maybe he mis calculated the ratio...

so if anyone has any cash/trade offers, get at me and you can come check it out in Joliet this saturday too.

also, off topic kinda, can a jeep like this with a 3speed and 33's feasibly drive on the highway? im not sure of the ratio in those trans's but if i end up taking it and not being able to trade right away, its gunna have to be highway worthy and no redlining or getting 10mpg on the highway....

haha hands full? why's that? and i told him it was the AMC rear and he seemed to agree and be happy i told him. so i dont think there is a d44.

im not really looking to keep this thing, just use it to get some thing else interesting.

why kinda rpms should this thing be turning at 70mph with a 4.0/3spd and 33's?

Being a midwest Jeep, you also have to wonder what all the diamond plate is either covering up, or holding together. I don't know how much you know about CJ's, but check the frame. Check in the rear by the shackles, check by the rear shock mounts, etc. Look for signs of patching, rust, etc. The Holley carb also scares me, your better off with a two barrel, my guess it's a 390, either way, it's probably not set up right. This wouldn't be bad if your keeping it and can work through the quirks, but if your just looking to re-sell, your going to be the one dealing with potential problems. If your going to pay someone to re-gear one of the axles, your going to be looking at about a $400.00 bill take or give depending on what you pay for the gears and labor. A gear set with install kit will run you nearly $200-$250 alone depending on brand, where you buy it from, etc. I don't want to scare you as it may be a nice Jeep, but you also hate to stick a grand into something just to sell it. I myself, with the mismatched gears, diamond plate, poor choice for a carb, etc. would have a hard time paying more than $4,500 for it. In todays economy, it'll be hard pressed to get much more than that, even on fleabay. The wiring harness doesn't look like it's buttoned up, loomed nicely, etc. from just that one pic. Seeing that the carb and intake are not stock, he was probably into the wiring harness by passing the computer, etc.

the tube bumpers and paint are also to "personalized" and not a good selling point.

well if someone wanted to pay $4,500 for it I'd be signing the title over right now lol.

i do see what you are saying about the diamond plate, someone else mentioned that to me too, but i dunno the pictures of the differentials and t/c look pretty good and stuff, i find it believable that it was actually restored and diamond plate added for the look.

i already have one pretty decent trade offer that im considering, and ill be sure to check on those areas you mentioned or ask him for pictures of them...

i just know regardless its worth more than id ever be offered for my explorer. so its tempting.

not to hi jack again, but...it took me 6 months to sell this and I let it go for a little over $6,000! I needed the money to help my business start up. I also had 4 failed ebay ads that cost me nearly $400.00...

It was rust free!
4.10's front and back
one piece shafts, rear Detroit
Rubicon Express Extreme Duty
Goodyear MTR's, Aluminum rims, set of 5
Warn 8274
Custom front and rear bumpers from AtoZ
Custom seats
Built 258, with a Bigs custom built carb, pro-billet distributor from MSD, much more..headers, dual exhaust, etc.

the list goes on, but I had an easy $20,000 into it and could hardly give it away. Your seeing a ton of that today as it's a buyers market, for damn near everything.

TTT...offers? few days till i might own this.

have some contact info on a mechanic who has worked on this jeep. he said its a nice jeep overall, waiting on more details from him though.

but from looking at all the pictures i have of it, looking into the backgrounds and stuff, all the suspension still looks new, it's definitely not a rust bucket.
