Hopefully. Weather keeps this up and it'll be longer yet. Hard to leave a boat floating when it's this hot out!

I said from the beginning I'm over my head, it's an in depth project and I'm learning a ton but that slows things down quite a bit too. Once the weather cools down and life slows down a little, I'll get back to it. It's not a priority right now.

mine sat for 7 months when i did my second build.it gets hard to work on them when you know there is a ton too do.once you get in the groove and just do it, it all pays off seeing it finished.

Stupid as it sounds, the major hang up right now is the stripped out bolt holes for the x member mount for the AX-15. I don't have a heli-coil set and a nut won't go in without grinding on the casting. It's not a big thing but it slows me down, little stuff like that has been killing me. I haven't spent more than 5 min looking at it, that's first on my list when I get back to it. The T-case is ready to go, crossmember needs to be finish welded, make driveshafts, run brake lines, coolant hoses, put battery in and it's ready for a trip through the field. There's a ton more to do after that but I need to drive it through the field to feel like I accomplished anything so that's my new goal. One day at a time, it'll get done eventually.

Took a couple pictures tonight. Crossmember is finished. Tapped AX-15 out to 1/2-13, we'll see how that holds up. Put shifters in, hooked up cable shifters, shifts good so I'm happy about all the work I put in for now. Stuff for Erin:

Last 2 are taken from the top of the front pinion at ride height. Have to stay with 1.5" dom for the driveshaft to clear. Where the exhaust is going to go............um yeah.

Putting rocker guards in place from Ricky at the moment. Little bit here and there. Get 2.5 hours to work on it this week
Freehand is where it's at!

That's all for this week

WTF! Is that cross member a joke or are my eyes failing me?! Is the cross section really about .5" tall? And crossmembers with rigid bushings that far out are great at breaking adapters, cases and stripping bolts. Just keep an eye on it... Chances are, it'll be fine for a while.

Other than that, it good to see you making progress again!

You obviously need your eyes calibrated, it's at least 5/8" thick and over an inch wide .........and it's solid out about 3-4 inches out into each side of the tube. I needed the clearance for the shifters and for the T-case the way it's clocked. The bottom is already interfering with the flat belly skid. I ran out of room. The crossmember warped while welding(imagine that ) so I put my 230lb fat ass hanging off the long end to try and bend it back and couldn't. I think it'll be fine for now. I'm not really happy with the whole crossmember but I'm out of ideas on how to incorporate a traditional trans mount in the space I have available. The only way I could come up with other than that was to not have a trans crossmember and put a donor rubber trans mount right on the flat belly plate. That's a pain in the ass if I ever needed to pull the skid for any reason. I could still do it that way I guess, nothing set in stone after taking this long

Nope, he's right, it's not ideal but it's all I could come up with with my limited imagination.

Ok, it makes a little more sense....

If you want an idea to go on, you could make new mounts for the cables tha mount them next to the case as opposed to under it. Then make new extensions for the rails that clear the yoke and d shaft and allow actuation from the new cable location. Make a new cross member that bolts in there but doesn't have bushings that far out and put a plate off the front side to mount a factory style bushing right where your bolts for the cross member and trans/t case mate now.

Minimal tear up but the hardest part would be redoing the shifter cable mounts while not giving up any feel on the actuation.
