Default ranger problem

94 ranger....pulled the front end into the garage to change the water pump and t-stat. went to pull it out and no forward or reverse. you can hear the click when u put it into gear but i think thats just the detents on the shift lever. the fluid was good but we droped the pan to check if the filter was cloged. filter is fine and the fluid seemed ok not metal or anything. any ideas would help.

1) Engine size???

Either way, it's odd that it went there under its own power and now wont move.....my only guess is that the main spool valve in the valve body isn't in its proper location, or the pump is bad.....if it were me, I would have checked the main line pressure prior to pulling the pan. This still should be done, but now that you've dropped the pan refilling it may be a waste of ATF (unless you re-use the old stuff)

Wow, You changed the waterpump and still don't know the size of your motor? How is that possible?

o and by the way.....found out whats wrong.....when the prev. owner mated the "rebuilt" trans the the "rebuilt" motor he must not have cared cause the torque converter got crammed into the pump and took them both out.....only had the truck for a week and we got it for $700.....

Oh, that sucks!
'94 had 2 different v-6s that were very different motors. 3.0 and 4.0.
$700 WAS a good deal.

yep gotta make sure the torque convertor is fully seated into the bump before cramming the bell housing bolts into the block.
