I prefer a windshield but on something like an XJ where you cant replace it easily when it gets f-ed up I'd go without it.

I was always afraid of breaking the windshield on the tracker... I wont have to worry on the next one...

I use no windshield on the boat.

My next rig will also NOT have a windshield. I prefer the visibility, and did not like replacing windshields (thanks lowlock )

It looks as if the general consensus is that if the Mrs and I can tolerate having a few sticks and stones thrown at us .. literally .. it's a lot more fun with out the glass.

ive seen it done and look just fine, but the downfall is like nuzzy said (i think) the cowl area takes a beating fairly often, and having the windshield folded down puts it right in harms way. however, jeeps have been wheeled for decades with the shield down and you dont hear about them getting smashed all that often.

I fubared my windshield frame here. This was the last straw.

So, I built this: You probably have to look pretty close to even see it.

It has saved me a bunch of times. Actually, I broke the glass here but no damage to the frame.

You can see where it is tied into the cage here. It also is tied to the cowl and to the rock slider at the bottom. I have hammered it hard with no damage.

So, saving your windshield can be done. It really boils down to how much wheeling you are going to do in foul weather. I enjoy the ability to go out in any weather, in any temperature & still be comfortable. When in Canada we may run 25 miles up the highway before diving off into the woods.

For thost that are running a buggy & never on the street, I can see where running without a windshield is fun. But there's no way you can tell me that it doesn't bother you on days when it pours.
