Default 90 chevy 1/2 ton HELP!!!!****UPDATED with results/fix!****

ok, so have a 90 chevy 1/2 ton with a TBI 350....idle has always been somewhat irratic....now it wont start.
few weeks ago, went to use the truck and it wouldnt start after sitting overnight....left it alone for a few weeks (was out of town)and tonight it fired and died 3 times, finally got it to stay running and went for a test drive didnt seem right, so left it running and popped the hood.
started checking for grounded spark plug wires and such when it idled way up for a bit. revved it a bunch and then let it idle back down after about another 15 seconds it died and wont start back up....wont fire, just cranks.
have good spark (will jump over 1/4 inch) and can see fuel being sprayed into the carb...
changed the TPS with a spare we had and no luck.....any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

thanks
justin

Have you checked compression? If you have fuel, spark, and compression it should run. Mine had a idle problem for a while and was low on power, ended up being valve springs.

i will have to see if i can get my hands on a compression tester....the motor was put in 3 years ago, and has MAYBE 20K on it (fresh professional rebuild that has ran flawless till now)

on another note, the spark is yellow....I always thought if it wasnt bright blue, that it wasnt hot enough

would these cause a no start issue when there is fuel and spark? I know the last guy said compression, but I just find that hard to believe when it was running yesterday and then just stalled out and wont restart.

i hate easter egging, but i need to get this fixed.

Spark should be blue. Have you checked your plugs? Are they fouled? Coolant emp sensor and Iac can give problems but it still should start it may not run right or idle but should start. They used to have a problem with the reluctor ring in the distributor coming loose and moving timing around, usually retarding it really bad. Have you tried starting fluid? Maybe not getting enough fuel.

I was just stating that if it has those three components (fuel, spark, compression) it shoud run.

sorry, I wasnt trying to offend you I'm just trying to give as much info as possible.

the 1 plug I pulled was black....not fouled, just black. my dad has been driving the truck and he does have a reallllllllly light foot.

was doing some reading and some people with similar issues (not exact) were saying map sensor, o2 blah blah.....but it is not even trying to fire and theirs was just running crappy.
I am going to go home at lunch and see if it will fire. (stone cold like yesterday) will report back.

No offense taken. Just trying to help you get your truck running. If your plugs are black it sounds like it is getting to much fuel. May have flooded out yesterday. Could be a multitude of things causing it,Weak coil, MAP sensor, Coolant tempsenor, Throttle position sensor, Oxygen sensor, Fuel pressure regulator ( on the back top of the thorttle body) the springs sometimes break. If you could get access to a scan tool that shows data while running, you could eliminate many of the sensors without spending the money to replace them.

ding ding ding! we have a winner

so I went home at lunch and the old girl fired right up and purred like a kitten...so I sat there with my foot on the gas and revved it up to about 2K to get it to warm up and see if it would die again....well after about 5-8 minutes it was like a switch clicked and it started running horrible....had a real bad miss and a loud hissing, so i quick jumped out and unplugged the temp sensor and it straighted right out and was purring like a kitten again. plugged the sensor back in and downhill it went....EUREKA!!!!!
then after about another 2 minutes, it stalled and wouldnt restart, just crank and crank with no fire. I once again unplugged the sensor and after about 5 seconds of cranking it fired right up.
So I ran to the parts store got a new sensor put it in and went for a test drive and she runs how she is supposed to now!

Thanks everyone for your help and input
