Default Rei

Id never been to REI before today, and I must say that I believe it is my most favoriteist place to be in the entire world. They sucked me into becoming a member after talking bikes with the mechanics for over an hour.
The whole rebate check thing intrigues me, how much has everyone gotten back from them?

I love REI !!!

I go there for most of my biking aparel, and some camping stuff. I hope to someday be in an area with rockclimbing (and in the shape to do it) they have the hook up on that stuff too.

They are truely an Out-of-doors Enthusiest type of store. The carry only quality stuff, period.

I've never had a pair of Merrell boots, but I've never heard anything bad about them (until now), and I've never had any problems returning anything.

I bought a pair of winter hiking boots, they ripped on both boots in the same place, had a hell of a time returning them (they were less then a month old), literally argued with the people at REI to give me my money or a new pair of boots for an hour (had original receipt and everything). Finally they gave me my money back. I stupidly purchased the same boots from a different retailer, they ripped in the exact same location/fashion with in weeks of purchase, I returned them, and got another pair from the retailer (Rocky's in Flint, very helpful), the third pair again ripped in the same location, I no longer wanted to exchange for the same boots, I wanted my money back. I was in the UP at this time and couldn't feasibly get back to Rocky's in flint, so I approached merrell directly, they essentially told me to fukc off.

I still have the boots, they are 5 years old now. They are ripped, leak water like crazy, and flat out suck.

They are comfortable, and warm, but useless considering I have wet feet everytime I step outside in them.

Did the lace loops tear away from the shoe? I've had three pairs with that failure. Each pair I returned through Merrell. Two of the pairs were 1+ year old and they told me to select a current model for a replacement. No complaints with Merrell customer service from me.

Did you use your charming e-persona when chatting with the customer service agent?

I just took some pics and I am trying to get them off my camera.

no, I used my charming real persona

The worst part is I really liked the boots but they just kept falling apart

All three pairs ripped in the exact same spot and all within about a week-month of owning them.

The REI store is fun...and their member program seems worth joining, especially if you are going to shop there often.

Bought some REI hiking pants there, loved em :)

When I was there there was a stereotypical hippie running the register. Long tangled hair, flowing flower skirt and all, lol.

I was looking at buying a touring kayak, but at $1100+, I decided not to.

REI is definitely one of my Favorite places to get nearly any of my gear- if im shopping in a store. They have such a great selection of high quality gear that i always end up going there, finding what i want, fit it in store, and buy online. backcountry.com, sierratradingpost.com, campmor.com. Way to many places to list to get stuff for nearly half price on occasion.
