Pics from last time!

Carb (Carbed vehicles would have a hard time making it up due to stalling) hill
The scary part is that it's on the ridge of a "small mountain" on the left is a drop of 200' and on the right is a drop of 300' so you really don't want to screw up and that's aways in your mind.

The rest of my group didn't want to attempt it so I had to go down and come back up :tonka:

Going down

And coming back up

Where exactly do you guys go in Slade? Are these trails on any maps, or do you just know some locals who show you the way?

What would you say the minimum vehicle requirements would be to tackle these trails?

I might try to tag along. I've got a small piece of land and an old pop-up a few miles up the road from Slade. I've been meaning to get back down there and close it all up for the winter. This would be a perfect excuse to do that...plus I'm just wrapping up the lift on my XJ.

Some things are really challenging but in most cases there are ways around and in others we'll drag you up

The least built rig is a YJ on 32's open open.

A guy in our club has been down there many many times and he's our trail boss.

We'd love to have you

Ways around, willingness to drag me, and open diffs are all good news.

When I'm done, I should be sitting around 4.5" on 33's with an XJ (open both ends). Honestly though, I just don't have any experience on real trails. There's got to be a first for me sometime...I just don't want to hold the group up. Either way though, I'd like to meet up with you guys and check out the trails. I'm down there all the time and I always see guys with Jeeps, but I never know where they go. I've always been a bit intimidated because I see the local rigs at the Shell station...both diffs welded, 44" tires, Dodge Omnis with 20" of lift. LOL, you know how they roll down there. If an open YJ on 32's can hang, I might be able to also. I'll PM you when my plans become definite.

Are you wheeling with the guys from Cinti that used to be the trail guides for the Jeep Jamboree? They were a great group of folks - many of them shared the log cabin motel with us...

I did the last Slade Jamboree in 2005 and it was the best wheeling I've ever done or seen. Mud, rocks, hills, ruts, off-camber and outstanding sights. The heights got to me after a while (as a flatlander) and they really enjoy placing the trail next as many dropoffs as possible...

I did everything (and strapped 16 of 20 up the back entrance to Holiday Hill) on 33s locked rear and TruTrac in front...

There are so far about 7 rigs which is a good number and we are a great group of guys who won't mind helping you regardless if we are pulling you or spotting you. We do want you to give it a go before you chicken out though

Slade is my second favorite place to Harlen, KY.

Jim is possibly the guy you are thinking of and he's in our group but I don't think he's going (big family, thanksgiving keeping him home) but our trail guide is top notch!

The pictures of carb hill don't do it justice since you can't see the 150' drop on one side and the 200' drop on the other side

I've been to Harlen before, but on Rhinos not Jeeps... My wife's family lives pretty close to Harlen, and I went and watched some of the guys from Koz-offroad a few years ago. That lower rock garden is pretty sick. I definitely have no business on that type of trail yet.

I'm very familiar with the area, so I can use my imagination...which is why I'm apprehensive. I don't want to get in over my head. Wrecking my Jeep is one thing, death is quite another. I don't wanna die!

You can wheel all the parks down south with jeeps on 33's. Most of the parks (harlan, windrock, tellico, and flat nasty) all have more intermiediate trails then hardcore trails.

I want to get down to Slade. Probably in January or Feburary. I have to get another motor put in my rig before I can go out again.

Go ahead and make the count 8. I've got the ok from the wife. Pending some major setback finishing my lift, I'll be there.
