Default Tithing question?

My fiance insists on giving 10% of her income to her church. I personally think that is stupid, but I had a question about it. Does Jesus require 10% of Gross Income, Adjusted Gross Income, or Taxable Income? just thought I'd ask the GL4x4 theologians their thoughts?

Jesus needs 10% off the gross. He comes before taxes.

One of the guys at work here is struggling to get by.. Yeah, after I found out he gives 20% BEFORE TAXES to his church I stopped feeling bad for him. That is like 35% of income.

i'm in the wrong fucking business. I need to start a church and have morons blindly give me 10%. Plus the state and Federal tax breaks are great too.

You know what, times are tough. My church is offering a 1% discount and we will not make you feel guilty about only giving 9%.

10% is low, should be 15% of gross.

10% is really only a suggestion. You should give what you can, because you want to and not because someone tells you you should or that you have to.

Jesus hasn't dropped by with any fish, manna, or good wine lately, so he doesn't get shit.

You got it wrong, you keep 10%, and give the rest to church.

I yell his name to get his attention, then I throw all my money in the air. What ever hits the ground, I assume he did not want.

To be honest, even when I attended church I never heard of this "set" amount. We gave a couple of bucks on Sunday and it was good. My parents always gave in an envelope that had an ID #. We boys gave a few quarters.

Now, I do not attend church and really have a problem with the tax free status many churches enjoy, especially when I see the monolithic buildings some of them build. Not to mention the lifestyles some of the leaders live.

Don't you wonder if thinking your future wife's religious beliefs are stupid might be a little problem?

honestly I have similar issues with many of the secular non-profits as well, including the lifestyles some of their leaders live.

*Shrug*

to the question at hand:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tithes

I can't help but wonder if Sova, as part of the Democratic entitlement program is going to expect everyone to google for him while he waits for his bama-cheque, or if this is just more thread-baiting stabs at Christians...

What does she think would happen if she stopped paying? Where does that money really go? The state and fed. for taxes, the gas, and electric companies, and probably a little tiny bit to charities. Who exactly does she want to give her $ to?

I won't be spending any time volunteering there.

I think I'll just tithe the 10% of my income to the church of me. sounds fair.
