The point Obama is making is that we need to transition from coal burning power plants built with old technology to plants built with advanced technologies--and that is exactly the action that will be incentivized under a cap and trade program, the spokesperson said. We know that additional work is necessary to develop and deploy these technologies. That is why Obama has argued for a robust funding program for carbon capture and sequestration. Its strikingly similar to what McCain has said (in fact McCain goes a step further saying he wants to transition completely away from coal).
He said he is going to bankrupt the coal industry. Are you cognitively impaired? Any asshole can see he going to try and ruin this country by forcing the majority of the employers in this country to downsize or go bankrupt .

My house was about 1/4 of what I was approved for. And they offered to get me 125% of of the approved value. Tempting, but no thank you.
It sure is nice NOT to be wallowing in debt for a house that is worth half the mortgage.
The house is worth 3/4 the mortgage.

May not make a difference to anyone at this late date, but here is some more to think about.

Yes, I agree, Obama was making a statement of example in saying that the coal industry would go bankrupt trying to build what they have now, the context being that "clean coal" is the desired result. His statements also indicated that the free, open market would find these clean solutions in order to stay in business. Something that McCain and Palin have supported as well.

Saw this on the Daily show last night, he has the resources to search for these items that none of us has.

Click this link and then, in the center of the page, just below the embedded video, select "Indecision 2008 - Last Day". At 6:10 into the video (you can fast forward) the subject comes up, at 6:40 there is a clip of George Voinovich - R Ohio - saying that the McCain amendment (Emissions regulations debate) would force the coal industry out of business in favor of natural gas.

If you think about what has been said for a moment, it is not unlike what has been done to the auto industry. Federal restrictions on emissions have led to new technology to keep our cars cleaner.

Both the Republicans and the Democrats have called for clean coal as a possible future technology. There has to be some incentive to bring about this change. Just asking won't do it. This is an ultimatum to "Get-er-done". The federal regulations will come, regardless who is on power.

If a ccandidate would have said "I will convince India and China to cut down their emissions/carbon footprint/etc." would have been much better IMO. Those countries produce more in a day than the US does in years.

Luckily we got them down quite a bit on the $$ as it was too.

Oh yea, just in case you haven't heard, due to long lines at the polls, Dems are asked to vote tomorrow when the polls are opened then.
