Mason is in talks now. The board is not in favor of it but the 1000 people we had sign the petition may swing them around. Tabled until next meeting in 30 days.

Sorry sir!
I'm a little behind in my email.
But you are absolutely correct!
Here's what I have:

Please take note:

Crawford and Oscoda County Commissions have adopted a master ordinance for the county, but are awaiting townships response to opt in or opt out and what roads they may wish to open or have closed.

By no means, are all counties open 100%! Some may have a mile or several miles closed to ORV operation. Others have entire townships closed. DO NOT RIDE INTO A CITATION, CHECK LOCALLY BEFORE RIDING! Some counties will post on their website, some will publish maps, some will do almost nothing because of lack of funds or available manpower. Speed limits will vary from township to township and county to county,

The latest we heard on a fine for failure to have a current ORV Trail permit affixed to the machine and operating on a non-designated public road, $585.

It is strongly suggested, days prior to riding a particular area, do a web search, www.micounties.org is a good starting point to access the counties. Then to the County Clerks office. See if they have a map posted or make contact with the Clerks office seeking available information.

DO NOT call the DNR, they have no responsibility for PA 240 distribution of information. This is entirely a local government responsibility.

As we go past July 17th, townships will have the option of writing their own ordinance and we will again see changes. Then things will settle down. We are in an education period, certainly not as complicated as it sounds.

Any County or Township Ordinance can be rescinded at the next regular meeting of that body by a simple motion, second, discussion and majority vote. It is up to the ORV user community to act in compliance with PA 240 and local ordinances!

In many Counties, elected officials have all but laid their political careers on the line thinking PA 240 offers an increase in safety in the operation of ORV's on county roads, that it offers greater environmental protection, recreational opportunity for their residents and guests along with economic benefit to their county,

The Michigan ORV community is now being judged and their actions looked upon by several states.

Thanks Yetti.

This one just came in today:

Need help on this one, no trail, same as Manistee and Mason. But a necessary link to get us from the east coast to the west coast.

Mark Roper is the County Chair and one heck of a nice fellow. We cannot let him down. If it will work there nicely, enhances our chances in Manistee and Mason.

later, Dick

Subject: Benzie ORV Update

Just wanted to let you guys know that we will have our public hearing on Wednesday 5/13 at 6:30 pm in the Platte River Elementary Gym which is located in Honor. The ordinance and the proposed map are posted on our county website at www.benzieco.net The MAC attorneys have looked at our draft ordinance and pretty much given us a thumbs up. I'm going to ask for a vote of the Board of Commissioners that night. The guys here want an answer so they know what they have to do next. We've had three pretty good meetings with public input to come up with this ordinance so I feel good about that. Of course there are the nay sayers and they are pulling out the big guns with radio spots asking all of those against the ordinance to attend the meeting however I think it's working in our favor as the ones hearing it are calling to say they'll be there in support...we'll see...

Thank You,
Mark

Hours ago Mason County denied a motion to adopt a county wide ordinace. Two shit heads that blow smoke turned all the others but two. Politics at its best. These two guys went agenst most of the townships request for them to take a leadership role. For the people my ass.

To obtain a copy of a county ordinance, visit www.micounties.org. Some are now posting roads open to ORV use along with their county ordinance. For further info, contact the county Clerk.
