i have 'heard' when you ground to a part that needs to like come apart, or through a bearing, that it tends to stick things together. I guess it happened at the shop my uncle works at when somebody grounded to a hub on a rear end and welded a shock mount or something on. didnt turn out too swell

That can happen, but usually if the part in question isn't tightened down. It will arc between the two parts. I've had to ground through a bolted occasionally, never had a problem if I made sure there was no paint between the two surfaces and everything was tight.

its not an issue... never really is. Just remember to never ground through something that you wouldnt put a tack weld on. i.e. grounding through bearings is pretty dumb.
