Default is this a good deal on a d70?

i'm not a photographer but i love photography and take alot of out door pitcures with my 6 year old fuji fine pix that is just about dead. i need to upgrade as i am wanting to get into it more as a hobby.
a guy a work has:

d70 w/strap
18-70 nikkon lens dx
new battery+charger
1 gig card
new bag
all papperwork and software
says its mint and cannot tell from new.
$475

its around what i was looking to spend and i know the guy. i was just looking for some outside input because i honstly don't know if its a good deal or not. i do know its around 5 years old so....

Its fair. I don't think they make the 70's anymore. Personally, I would look on amazon for a D40. You can pick them up with an 18-55 lens, brand new w/ warranty for less than that. Just a thought.

not a deal I would jump at... As Hack said, newer D40s and the Rebels have dropped in price a lot over the last 2 years or so since your friend has bought the D70

What the D70 has that the D40 does not, 5 focus points and an internal focus motor, both to me are very important.

I have a D70s an I love it, highly recommended. A friend of mine has a D200 and a D70 and often prefers the D70....

We're not saying they are the same cameras.... what is a used one worth?

The D70 is a bit more camera than the D40. I would buy a used D70 or D200, before I bought a new D40. I bought my D70, minus lens, for $375. It was perfect, couldn't tell from new bla bla. That should give you an idea.

5 years is pretty old in terms of digital cameras.

I wasn't implying they were, merely pointing out two differences that I think are of note. They use the same sensor though and infact share many similarities.
