Doesn't really answer the question too well. I just skimmed it though. It is insane that WE have to fund the two major presidential conventions. Bullshit. Let them sell a few extra $10,000 per plate meals at fundraisers.

I love Friedman. His writings on corporate social giving are great. I need to do more reading of his work. My undergrad BA is in Econ.

x2. Where do they find these and at anyway? The last person WORTH voting for was Perot. Now there was a guy who made absolute sense!

He was definitely a goofball, but a VERY well educated business owner that understood big company business. His comment that running a country is like running a business is dead on. We just have a company that can't get rid of the dead weight for some reason. I actually voted for him too.

Alexander Tytler writing in the founding era said: "...the world's greatest civilizations.. have progressed through this sequence: from bondage to spiritual faith; from spiritual faith to great courage; from courage to liberty; from liberty to abundance; from abundance to selfishness; from selfishness to complacency; from complacency to apathy; from apathy to dependency; from dependency back again to bondage."

Where do you think we are in this sequence?
Can we stop it or at least slow it down?
It also seems to me that we are moving through these phases at an accelerated pace compared to earlier civilizations. Is this because of the technology of the modern age? If so then we have lost more control than we can fathom.

My family has been fitted with the hats of the finest foil money can buy and I am starting construction on a foil dome over my entire property.

I will also be voting 3rd party.

I believe we are moving very rapidly into the dependency stage if we aren't fully there already. Can we stop it or slow it down? No. Civilizations greater than ours couldn't stop it and they didn't have the welfare contingent driving it forward like ours is. It would take a re-education of the masses on a global scale. That will never happen because of the earlier complacency/apathy stages. People have no reason to care at this point. You can't be held responsible for your own actions at this point, so why bother. The government will just bail us out.

x2

for people that don't follow history will not realize this. we are at a crossroads. obama is the symbolic savior so many failing civilizations have looked to, to save them. ultimately it does them in.

in comparison over the years of formal education studied the history of art and civilizations. you can trace the demise of a civilization by the size of their constructs. go back through antiquity. egypt, rome, myan, mycenean, minoan. the larger things get the less powerful the society.

our huge cars, big houses, giant ships & planes, our huge buildings. are all testament to our impending failure. the average american is sitting back and hoping it just fixes itself.

I do have faith that it could be changed. still I think people are more afraid of working hard than they are of oppression

To make that claim, you'd have to assume that the individual who is voting third-party would otherwise be willing to vote for McCain, which is not the case a lot of the time.

Ron Paul even noted that a lot of the people who were swayed to his side of the fence were formerly Obama supporters. They fall for the smooth talk, clean appearance, and idealistic ideas, but, when they actually test the feasibility of these plans and dig in, they go over to the third-party.

Ron Paul endorsed him . . . and I was planning to write in Ron Paul, unfortunately they won't count him as a write-in in most places.
