My pitman arm doesnt want to come off and I broke a second pitman arm puller. Does any know anything that I could do to get the pitman arm off? besides a BFH cause I tried that too.
would I be fine without a drop pitman arm?

two hammers, Smack them together on either side of the pitman arm. Worst case, grab a die grinder.

If the nut is off then try heat like I said before. Warming up the pitman arm will make it expand and *SHOULD* almost fall off the steering box. That or an air hammer if you have access to one.

HEAT and VIBRATION are your 2 best friends when working on something that don't want to break free.

That was quick
I will try that, I was gonna leave that cutting as a last resort plus I have to buy cutting wheels cause all I have are grinding wheels.

Thanks!

im not really sure i understand why you need a drop pitman....i have a 97 ranger 2wd and i am going coilovers and 4.5" wider ibeams/custom radius arms and 16-20" of travel and all that is required is to have stock steering extenders...no drop pitman is needed....by the way i have a 4" on it right now and 33's with fiberglass fenders and no pitman arm and it works just fine and does not need it. just my .02

Did/do you have any problems with the tie rod ends or any pre mature wear on anything without doing the drop arm. I figured if I got the drop arm I would put it on if I could get the old one off. Thanks.

Either that or pick up a MAPP gas cylinder that will work with the propane tip and get many times hotter.

Update, I got the pitman arm off, I rented another puller (third one being used) and used a bunch of PB blaster and wd-40, a BFH, and then hit the top-ish of the pitman arm about 20 times and the pitman arm came off. Then I got the drop pitman arm on, next thing to do is the brake line and then get all new drag link cause its all sloppy. Then maybe, just mayb I will be able to drive it for a while.

Thanks to all for the help!

Thanks, cant wait to see what it drives like, I drove it a couple of times then the brakes blew and not able to drive it til I get that fixed.

I got a rim for the spare now I just got to get it on the rim, should be fun stuff trying to get it on another thing I might do is, put another leaf in so the ass dont sag when I put my old cap on, either that or find a roll bar like I had in my first ranger.
Now I just have to find old pics of the ranger to be able to find that roll bar lol.

Update... I got the brake line fixed and had to bleed the brakes and when I thought I was done, I was far from it. When I tried to bleed the brakes the bleed screw broke off, when I tried to get the drum off it cracked and broke

So now I have a new list of theings to do and unfortunately teh truck wont make it to mounds on T-Day

I have:
1 brake cylinder to do
replace a spring the broke off the drum brakes
put new drum on
bleed the brakes
and newly discovered, I have to do the front part of the leaf spring hangers now
check out why my truck doesnt want to shift gears occasionally
and alignment

so far I spent more money than I thought I would.

Save youself another headache and do both drums with both wheel cyl. and new shoes and hardware kits for both. You know that when you are reassbling it something else is gonna break. That is the way it always happens to me anyway.

Got the brakes mostly done, but I have to do the brake lines on the axle because those leak too. So tomorrow I am doing the brake lines on the axle, bleed the brakes and tada its driveable.

I got the leaf hangers and once I get the truck aligned tomorrow, I am going to head out to the junkyard to get a stock ranger leaf block or an extra stock leaf from another truck because the back is too low after it has been sitting for a while.

But for sure I will be driving the truck tomorrow.
