Default My topless XJ with all the wrong parts...

My name is Randy Curran and I'm from South Bend, IN. This is a truck my friend Matt built(simple 3", 31's, etc.) and then rolled coming HOME from a wheeling trip. Anyways, I bought it from him and cut the top off(it wasn't worth saving). I installed a S&W cage with an added main hoop for the rear passengers, 4.0/AW4, Dana 44/9" out of a '78 Bronco, Bronco radius arms(Bronco 2" leveling coils), '92 rear Bronco springs, soon to be custom cut 40" Ground Hawgs, etc. Yes I know the 44 won't last with the 40's, I don't care. I'm trying to have fun on a budget. I've got about $1400 in the whole truck, including the truck itself.

I'm calling it a Suggy, SUV-buggy. It was my friends idea and it cracked me up. I belong to the Midwest 4x4 Mafia here in South Bend, IN. You can checkout our forum at www.ilostmymind.com Just click on the forum page.

The only thing "wrong" I see is no pic or specs on the rat-rodded sedan in the next bay....post-war 4-door?

Good eye.

Nice rig.

about the d44 with 40" ... nope, won't last long ... not even with CTM's. I've heard a lot of people have tried though.

I concurr, even with a 4cyl and 37's they don't last, but's it's fun trying as long as you carry a few spares.

Question being the uni body setup, are your pillars tied into the cage at all or is it that the cage is all buttoned together and tied into the frame solid? Asking in means of uni body flex and not having the roof on. I was thinking of running this same type setup, being I rolled mine as well, but was ?ing if I had to weld the pillers into the cage for overall integrity?

Sorry about the tech questions in your build up, but you have a nice rig. Thanks

And pleae don't call it a rat rod. Them's fighting words! I do my own 'hot rod' magazine called Blacktop Graffiti(www.blacktopgraffitimagazine.com) so I know as I speak.

I'm going to weld the door pillars to the cage, don't know if I need to the front. It's all pretty solid.

It doesn't hurt so bad when it's already rolled. Can't wait to wheel it!

a tip, im looking at the cage top, you might want to stick a couple crossbars in there, to make a smaller gap so rocks/whatever wont be able to bonk your noggin

Nitz: You have allready talked me into enough! I'm keeping my roof. It will be too cold in the winter.

Randy: $1400 is killer for what you have. Sweet ride on both accounts.
