Default Staffordshire Bull Terrier

My wife is looking to give her dog to a good home. She recently took at job in Chicago and lives around a lot of black people. Cannon seems to not like black people. She has snapped at two of them in the last two days. She is a really loving dog and this is unusual to say the least. My wife called in tears as to what to do and I suggested that we see if someone on here would giver her a good home. We feel that we will have to put her down if we can't find her a home since liability issures that would arrise if she does bite some one and especially in sue happy Chicago.

She is 3 and is very hyper when you first see her, for instance comming home from work, but after that mostly sleeps. She will let you know if someone comes around your house and it always alert. She actually has hopped in my lap more then once when some one has nocked on our door. She is very protective of her family.

Bobbie lives in an apt and we used to live in a house with a big yard so if you have a yard for her to play in that would be awesome!! I'm sure she would love a yard and will love you in return!!

She is also good around cats and lives with two of them. She is not good around other dogs especially when they want to take her bone. When my mom and dad watch her when we go on vacation she will actually take the other bones of there dogs and then keep them between her paws just to be a little snot as an example. She is a really great dog but I just want you to know everything that is bad to make the best judgment possible if you would like to have her.

Here are some pictures.

I love this dog :)

Too bad Livonia doesn't allow any sort of Bull Terriers, and she doesn't play well with other dogs

I'll explain. I used to care for a Stratfordshire Bull Terrier in college. It is not an AKC recognized breed.

According to the AKC site, the breed pictured and described here is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, which your dog more closely resembles (in white):

My train of thought was that people would go searching for "Stratfordshire" and see pictures of a breed of Bull Terrier that most people find rather intimidating and associate with the bad image the pit bulls are given in the media.

As you can see if you read the AKC site, your dog is considered to be nice - like Ms. Chaffer said:

Temperament
From the past history of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, the modern dog draws its character of indomitable courage, high intelligence, and tenacity. This, coupled with its affection for its friends, and children in particular, its off-duty quietness and trustworthy stability, makes it a foremost all-purpose dog.

So, I figured you'd really want people to see the right info.

We are having to give our dog away so thanks for trying to make things harder by being a dick!

I have a Red Nose APBT and just in in case you wonder she isn't AKC registered because she's a Pitbull and they are not acknowledged. Cannon isn't either even though her mom has papers and her dad was supossed too. She's a pet so who cares if she is pure bred or not.

She is a Stratfordshire Bull Terrier and if you can't help find her a home then please stop posting your useless comments.

Thanks
there are brindle staffies just like brindle pits, they arent judged on color conformation unlike most breeds they can be all sorts of colors and eye colors and % of different colors.

from akc page http://www.akc.org/breeds/staffordsh...rier/index.cfm "ColorRed, fawn, white, black or blue, or any of these colors with white. Any shade of brindle or any shade of brindle with white. Black-and-tan or liver color to be disqualified."

for confused people the staffie was the orginal pit bull in england and ireland. It was the dog that american "pit bulls" came from, the irishmen brought over their staffies and the breed was bred for more length and size and became the dog we know was the pitbull. Strangely (not to me cuase i know both pits and staffies have a sweet nature) are called the nanny dog in england and atleast in the 1990's early 2000's were the most popular dog in england. They do not have the rep their that pits have here.

CMU jeeper i bet you dont have to give him away. I bet you can acclamate him to black people (unless you got him from a shelter and he was abused by blacks, i know a f ew like that, and one dog that was tared and set on fire by some mean black teens .... he loves everyone BUT BLACKS with good reason in his case). If your dog has never been abused i see no reason you cant break him of this, if you love him find a dog trainer or re up on this, put a muzzle on him, and have a nice calm black firend in soft voice give him toys and food etc or pet him with a muzzle on. They are very clever dogs he should come around.

I would take him but grosse pointe woods has an ordinance banning pit bulls, staffordshire bull terrier, and bull terriers , Sadly staffies and bullies are tied for my second fav dog after boxers.

for anyone confused by the long name this is a staffordshire bull terrier:

this is a bull terrier like the target dog (retailer target):

I think it's more wierd creepy apartment people more then blacks but most of the weird creepy ones happen to be blacks. I would take Cannon with me buying used cars or anything dealing with money do to her sense of detecting weird freeky people. It's not really my choice since it's my wife that has her and doesn't have the time or money for that matter to have her trained for weird creepy people. A muzzle is out of the question due the fact that when we tried to train her with a Haltie trainer she wouldn't eat for a week and actually scratched her face up trying to take it off. We didn't give into her demands until she drew blood. She has an iron will to take care of herself and those she loves and I can't do that too her.

We are searching to find her a good home. My wife is going to be in this aparmtent until Dec and then she will be transfered to another city to have a perment job and I'm still in college. We wish that we were further along in our lives and had a house with a yard and were settled. Since this is not possible we are going to try to give her the best life possible were she will be happy and not bothered by weirdos.

We have her on rescue listing and I'm positive something good will come for her.

My staffie was stung on the snout by a bee once and looked like a bull terrier. Snout swelled up right away but went back down the next day.

Sorry, KimbaJo actually here, can't seem to get 84Scrambler logged out...

For the record and along the same lines as Jamiesann was saying these are the breeds associated as pitbull type dogs. There is no such actual dog as a pitbull, it is a type like a retriever...

Staffordshire Bull Terrier (SBT), approx 14-16 inches and the original pit dogs of Great Britain (these are sometimes referred to English Staffordshire Terriers) and commonly nicknamed "Staffie Bulls." These dogs are extremely rare in the US and very pricey. Most likely anything you find in a shelter or rescue will NOT be an SBT.

American Staffordshire Terrier (AST) are larger and more often considered "pitbulls"

American Pitbull Terrier (APBT) basically the same dog as the AST although not recognized by the AKC.

The first 2 are AKC registered breeds.

The Bull Terrier (and there are several varieties, white, colored, mini...) are a different breed altogether and are not usually lumped in with the "pitbull" type even though they all come from the same original stock in England back in the early 1900's.

We have two registered Staffie Bulls and one mix Staffie/Border Collie. I help out a rescue out in Charlotte that specializes in placing pitties of all types, in fact, we are getting a foster for a couple weeks tonight. I can ask if she has any room but it is highly doubtful. There are literally thousands and thousands of pitties that are looking for homes. They are horribly overbred by people who shouldn't be doing it....just to make a quick buck or don't care.

I'm also involved with BSL (breed specific legislation) and I don't think there are any restrictions in Livonia currently but I can check. Westland has some restrictions as does one of the Grosse's, Muskegon and a couple other communities. Detroit and Redford both repealed their BSL.

Kim
Good luck

CMU i dont want to insult you this seems to obvious to miss (worth asking cause it breaks my heart to think this daog could get put down) was it never exposed to black folks at Mt. Pleasant (or where ever your wife originaly got her at) ? How did she react to see ing a black person while walking, it could be totally a territorial thing if she is not used to being in a new place, new situation if its an apartment and she used to be in a house. etc

Try not feeding her and have a black neigbhor at a safe distance toss her a nice juicy hamburger patty every day for a few days. Something to break her notion your black neighbors are bad folks. Also see if you could borrow a black friends/neigbors shirt or shoes jacket etc for a day or two and put it by here cage (if you cage her at night) THEN she gets acclimated to that persons smell and when they toss her that yummy patty she is even more inclined to be open minded to blacks. They are smart dogs. She can learn to not do this, please dont put her down

watch the dog wisperer on national geographic. You will pick up some tricks on how to break this behavior. Make sure she knows who the pack leader is and that she does not have to protect you from others. Have a black person come over and just sit and talk with you. Do not have them attempt to be friends or pet her. She will be curious and want to check the person out. Make sure she is comfortable with the person before they attempt to pet, give a treat or any type of affection. If she starts to show agression assert yourself with her as the pack leader again and control the situation. It may take a little while for her to be comfortable but she will come around.

yea you can learn allot from dog wisperer ... i am 100 % confident unless this dog was horribly abused by blacks its just a minor thing to get over (yes i kn ow serious if she chomps down on some black folks arm ) but its just environmental stuff. Give this sweet doggie a chance. as some insight CMU jeeper i work in lots of homes everyday and spend the whole day there ... I have a window washing / power washing service company. Anyways my point is i wear a big ole tool belt and suspenders .... i just found out 2 years ago, it seems good 5-10 % of dogs it seems are scared of tool belts / guys in tool belts. Seems big ole meanie contractors that dont like dogs either tease them, or yell at them, or god knows what, when the owner isnt looking, cause some dogs are very suspicious of me and wont let me pet them with a tool belt on, but as soon as i take it off they love me. My point, this could be as simple as a few mean black dudes teasing your dog when you were not areound, and as simple as showing her all blacks are not bad folks.

The hard part of that is actually finding a nice blackperson in her apartment complex that will be willing to help. We won't put her down but we will continue to search for a new home with some land to run.
