Default Seasonal Roads

About how far from Ann Arbor do I need to drive to get into some seasonal roads that would be a nice drive during this fall color change. Something where 4x4 would be advisable would be perfect. My Samurai is very light build, 3" lift, 29" mud terrain tires, not locked, no winch. Any ideas? Thanks all. -Alex

I was just up in the SW corner of Manistee Natl. Forest. First time up there and it was awesome. The fire roads I was on were plenty wide. The seasonal roads and "other" trails were another story altogether. Very narrow but not techinical at all. Didnt need 4x4 but I also was short on gas so I didnt venture all that much. I have an 05 chevy colorado.

Youd better hurry though...colors are changing fast. Dry summer with the onset of these cool nights.

I'm note extremely firmiliar with them, but I know there are some over on in Alogon Forest on the south west side, would be a nice drive to Lake MI, but probably never have to put it in 4x4.

West Branch/Roscommon/St Helen area is only 2 hours from Ann Arbor. Or take I94 to Battle Creek, get off on M89, take that past Gull Lake to Allegan State Game area?
