It all depends on what you believe the market will do in the next year.

If you have 10,000, and you pull out, you will have 10,000 in a year.

If you leave it in there, and the market drops 25%, then you have 7500 in a year.

If you leave it in there and the market goes up 25%, then you have 12500 in a year.

If you're down to 7500 in a year, you will need a growth of 33.6% to regain your 25% loss. So you would have dug yourself a big hole.

I think the market is going to continue its slump, so instead of betting against the market buy selling short, I'm moving my money to what I believe to be safer ways of staying flat or yielding a small return.

I'm betting on in Obama wins, the market will artificially inflate for a while.

Tax loss selling is going to strangle the last gasp out of the market over the next few months. People are going to cash out, lock in their losses, get the tax benefit, and sit back on what little cash they have left going into next spring/summer hoping for any sign of life from the stock market.

That would be about the only way I could make money in this market. I'm down about $70k in about 3-4 months. Rule #1 - Never fall in love with a stock. Rule #2 - Always buy with an upside and downside target. Rule #3 - Always obey your upside and downside targets.

Anyone can buy stock. It is knowing when to sell that makes you rich.

Always follow the first rule of investing: "Don't lose money".

I was fairly well diversified, but even the megalithic corporations are disappearing so it's sorta hard to even stay with an index mutual fund these days.

I did find it interesting that Buffett's firm has placed something like 3 billion in purchase orders in the past couple of weeks. He too must be thinking that it'll rebound here in the next few months post election.

x3 sort of. I took my money out of stocks a few weeks back and put them into bond funds. That way I get a mix of bonds and can withdraw early and put it back into stocks when we hit the valley.

I'll bet the Dow drops to below 8000 before any real recovery begins.....

You better time that right. Assuming you put your money in gold (along with every other yanker, although they did it at a lower rate), you had better pull out before the rest of the smucks or you could loose quite a bit. Remember, buy low sell high. Seems like you just did the opposite.

Also, I am buying Walmart around the first of the year. Economy is still going to be poor once people start investing again and the average joe is going to be buying food and goods as cheap as they can get it (walmart).
