Cool Hiking Lake Superior Provincial Park CA, Awausee Trail and Sand River Falls

On Friday we headed back up the coast to Lake Superior Provincial Park to hike the Awausee Trail. The trail is labeled as a 4-5 hour "demanding trail." It has a lot of elevation changes and a lot of smaller valleys, each valley with its own stream and small trickling falls. We ate lunch at one of the lookouts, and still made it out in about 3.5 hours. We hiked the trail backwards to keep the lookouts at the end of the hike. If you hike the trail as recommended, you see all the lookouts in about the first 90 minutes and then you still have a 2 hour hike through the smaller valleys and old logging trail

Headed up the coast…

Here is the trail headed up the east side of the climb

And finally to the first outlook. This is facing South East

Here is the second lookout. This is facing south. The river is Agawa River, the Island is Montreal Island.

This is where we stopped for lunch

Here is the third lookout, facing West. We saw a bald eagle here soaring through the currents, a bit higher than us…

Here is the last lookout. It isn't very high. It is meant more for people who just want a 45 minute hike from the parking lot and back down. Facing South again.

After leaving, we went down to the river basin to get a picture looking back up to where we had hiked. Lookouts 2 and 3 were on the very top of the rock face you see in the background

Since we made it through the Awausee Trail with time to spare, we went for a fast hike up the sand river falls

By the way, you guys can both get in the same shot more often if you pick up one of these little fellers.

I love mine. It's money - hang it off a branch, tree knot, set it on a rock, etc.

those are sweet, thanks. I just emailed my mom another Bday or xmas idea. She won't support my buggy or diesel addictions, so gift ideas are always tough haha.

do you have the original or a bigger version? I just have a point and shoot, so I imagine the original is good. Do you have any accesories?

Yup, just have the original for my point and shoot. It holds it up fine, and fits right in your pocket. No accessories.
