Cool Hiking Lake Superior Provincial Park CA, Orphan Lake trail, and ENGAGEMENT!

Kristen (Wakebabe) and I are up here for the Looney run, and we figured a day trip for hiking would be fun. So wednesday we went for a hike on Orphan Lake Trail and the setting was beautiful. Found a spot with 2 or 3 waterfalls and the water was just low enough that we could jump across rocks and get right into the middle of it, the sun came out and it was perfect.

The first part of the hike was around Orphan Lake. The lake was used by trappers that would get caught out in bad storms, and they were reported as feeling like "orphans" stuck out in the middle of no where alone.

parts of the trail

Then came the river/falls

And the ring. We were lucky the water was just low enough to get to these spots. In the spring or summer this would have been under a few feet of water.

After about 20 minutes sitting in the sun enjoying the falls, we continued the hike out to Lake Superior

Unforgettable Lake Superior rocks... brings back a lot of old famliy memories. We picked a few rocks to take with us and remember forever.

And the hike back off Lake superior, uphill to a few lookouts.

And a nice lookout over the big water. It was calm.... people up here don't believe that it was calm, they say it is never calm....
The trees in this valley are all cedars and evergreen, so there wasn't any color on this hike, but the colors up here are perfect right now.

A high view of Orphan Lake

And back by the trail map

Overall is was a 3 hour hike. It really is only a 2 hour trail, but we took our time, took a lot of pictures and ended up sitting by the falls for a while.

Friday or Saturday we have a 5 or 6 hour hike planned (Awausee Trail) That hike is mainly a colors tour and elevation views... so more pics to come!!!!

I got engaged in Canada at a waterfall too during a wheeling trip! I did it at the chippewa falls on 17. Got to do it in front of a good group of friends and even had some bubblie on the falls. Congrats!
