I've been trying to find someone who knows the area well any recomendations
I grew up in the skeels area and know all the trails around meridith to Houghton lake, but never made it there form Roscommon. Is there any challenges or just dusty roads.
Any twisty tight hilly sandy areas and such, I do mud too.
Sunday would be good allot of us in Mt Pleasant might be interested.

St Helen trails are sandy 2-tracks with some decent hills. The St Helen scramble area has a sand bowl that's fun for a while - and since it's a scramble area, you can venture off-trail.

There's a mud hole also, but not many know where it is.

Are you talking about the mud hole that was just on the South West corner of the scramble area?? Back where it was really wooded?

Looked like this?

Yeah, this was a legal posted trail. Unfortunately, they came through this summer and logged the area and this hole in the picture has been filled in.

Are you talking about the one back by the sand hills? That was still there, actually getting bigger every time I have seen it. I was guessing this was the one that brewmenn was referring to.

Yeah, I know that hole too. We run around that area quite a bit. I will have to watch for you out there.

i would think that the dnr are getting more and more coverage of that area the traffic in the trails out there has grown so much over the last few years in comparison to when i first started exploring that area

It has been busier out there, and now that I say this I probably will see them all the time, but I haven't ran across them but maybe 2 or 3 times (in the scramble area). I have been going there, Rose City, West Branch area for a long time.
