Default St helen trail ride

heading up to st helen just north of west branch this weekend on short notice be there friday night 9-26 and saturday night 9-27 for some trail riding anyone is welcome to come PM me for my number if your interested we will be camping on state land friday and saturday night leaving sunday morning

I've been trying to find someone who knows the area well any recomendations
I grew up in the skeels area and know all the trails around meridith to Houghton lake, but never made it there form Roscommon. Is there any challenges or just dusty roads.
Any twisty tight hilly sandy areas and such, I do mud too.
Sunday would be good allot of us in Mt Pleasant might be interested.

St Helen trails are sandy 2-tracks with some decent hills. The St Helen scramble area has a sand bowl that's fun for a while - and since it's a scramble area, you can venture off-trail.

i stay away from the scramble areas nothing thats to much of a challange but still is a great time. just do alot of exploring through out the 2 tracks

there is a new developing mud hole everytime i go up it gets bigger and deeper near dunham lake and virgin hill

Are you talking about the mud hole that was just on the South West corner of the scramble area?? Back where it was really wooded?

whatch out if it is a mud hole/hill or something else interesting or challenging the DNR will be all over your ass :) I will be up there next weekend

Yeah, this was a legal posted trail. Unfortunately, they came through this summer and logged the area and this hole in the picture has been filled in.

Are you talking about the one back by the sand hills? That was still there, actually getting bigger every time I have seen it. I was guessing this was the one that brewmenn was referring to.

yeah last time i was there (labor day) there were a bunch of fullsize mudders back making it deeper than i have ever seen it i was talking to the locals they told me there had not been much rain in the few weeks leading up to labor day but it had more than doubled in size since the end of july

i would think that the dnr are getting more and more coverage of that area the traffic in the trails out there has grown so much over the last few years in comparison to when i first started exploring that area

It has been busier out there, and now that I say this I probably will see them all the time, but I haven't ran across them but maybe 2 or 3 times (in the scramble area). I have been going there, Rose City, West Branch area for a long time.
