I cry bullshit! A large percentage of low income households are that way because of poor decisions on their part. The low income households that I can observe directly seem to be filled with occupants that smoke and drink even when they don't have money for gas, rent, food, etc.

well now they'll have some more gas money to they can buy more booze and make poorer decisions

granted i don't think gas stamps will happen, because the price of gas should start falling come later this month anyway.

I'd rather see bus passes than gas stamps- If ridership increases there is a better chance of improved mass transit, something that would help the metro area.

Water...duh...I am going to buy one of those super gee whiz hydrogen generators so I can make hydrogen and oxygen and burn it to convert water to steam. By my calculations it should be almost 600% efficient AND you can roast marshmallows on my engine.

some people are living in their means, and can't make ends meet. My dad can't ride his bike to work, since it's over an hour away. Moving isn't feasible. new job? yeah right. Car pooling isn't even an option. Mother can't work due to health. Hospital bills, surgeries, rehab, RX ,etc add up quick. ( It's a sight to have to watch your mother be in constant pain. )
They've cut expenses. Don't go out to eat, cut us kids off financially, they don't travel, own gas guzzlers, don't buy expensive things, use wood to heat their home, etc, etc, etc.
someone offered the option of havin dad stay at their house during the week to save on gas.. but someone has to come home and take care of mom...

I'm just tired of people saying, Cut back on extra expenditures to save... if you've already been doing that for years... there isn't much to cut back on- then what do you do? Get another job?? Again, not feasible when you have to take care of someone else. For a lot of hard working Americans, the economy is really taking its toll.

end rant

I'm thinking about putting a motor on my mountain bike. These little chinese 2 strokes get 125-150mpg and can go around 30-35mph or higher with modifications. I can have the whole set up delivered to the house for under $200. It would be great for quick trips to the grocery store and going back and forth to work.
