When you're done playing with armor, open another career door by going Warrant and let the Army pay you to go to flight school. I came extremely close to doing that this past year. Unfortunately, I carry so much in civilian life that I wouldn't have been able to pay all my bills while in flight school.

I thought you were attached to MPs the last time you went over PP? That question was more directed to the Air Force chick.

I think after this tour I'll be done with Armor quite honestly. There's not really a whole lot to this job. Who knows though. A turbine on the ground is quite entertaining

And muddin_wolverine... thanks for confirming yourself as a pussy. Obviously they don't teach you air force guys the value of Selfless Service. I'd expect to hear that kind of comment out of a liberal fag like Mikesova... never woulda expected it from a member of the armed forces. Way to represent!

Correct. They handed us all brassards when we got there. We were in a battalion made up of 3 Active Duty (coed) MP companies and 3 National Guard Combat Arms companies, all of which were Artillery. It was nothing like what an MP does in garrison and the garrison MP's really weren't of the mindset that was required. They lost many more soldiers than the Combat Arms units did. We were street cops, State Highway Patrol, turnkeys, Iraqi Police Instructor/Trainers (that part sucked), and SWAT all rolled into one and frequently got the "Hey you!" types of jobs from the maneuver element in whatever battle space we happened to be driving around in that day.

Actually the Iraq war is the result of exactly 3 things..

1)Reagan giving arms and aid to Iraq (some guy named Saddam) to help fight Iran.

2)Norman Swartzkoph allowing the Iraq military to fly helicopters after Desert storm that Iraq used to crush the Kurdish rebellion. They would have eliminated Saddam from power. Saddams military was beaten down and the Kurds had nothing but momentum....within days the Kurds were backing up.

3)George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and the neo-cons.

What you said is a genuine "get knocked the fukc out if that was said out in public" kind of statement and has nothing to do with civility. Bystanders would view it as you being taught a lesson in decency.

I agree with what you are saying. You could have responded differently though. Instead, you responded by telling a member of the armed forces that he is too stupid to find a regular job and that he's an idiot for joining the armed forces. You further inferred that because he was stupid you would be laughing at him during his next tour in Iraq.

Honestly, had you said that in a bar in front of a bunch of patriotic Americans you would have gotten your ass beat.

I thank God every day for the men and women in our military (and public safety people too). If it weren't for them and their sacrifices to duty where would we be? I know to you, those are just words and don't mean anything. But to me, they do have meaning. Deep meaning. So, argue your point all you want. Respond to the name calling however you want. But that remark crossed the line of decency. Period.

Hollow apology from a hollow individual...

Even the initial thread's title/subject line is inflammatory, and not in line with the news reporting of the actual event. The raid itself is obviously outrageous enough based simply on the presumed facts that were stated in the reporting. They didn't need your editorialized and twisted view point added in...

You claimed in an earlier thread to actually believe that you are a normal, well adjusted, and reasonably happy person. I've gotta say that you play a pretty convincing misguided malcontent that is happiest trolling and stirring shit up for no particular reason...

Please allow me to clarify. I do believe this is the case with SOME people, not a majority. I know that there are MANY jobs in the military, that I could never do. I am also glad that there are people willing to do them. I respect people who deserve respect. I don't think that because you wear a uniform, you immediately deserve respect (case in point, SS) He has shown himself to be an asshole and condescending to another member of the armed forces in this thread. I don't particularly like SS and was sick of his comments, so I vented my frustration in a way that I know would be controversial. But let me again state, what I said doesn't include a majority or even a minority of the military, just SS.

But, this does bring up an interesting question...aren't there people who join the military as a last resort? is it just taboo to talk about it? What about when they lowered the standards to allow convicts and other unsavory characters that they didn't want before?

And is it just the armed forces who are "untouchable" when it comes to criticism? What about fire fighters, underwater welders, or even teachers? I've heard a lot of right wingers claim that the soldiers are safer serving in Iraq than if they were in LA or D-town based on the murder rate. So if I were working in LA or inner city Detroit, shouldn't I get the same magic "untouchable" cloak? I hear people on here calling teachers lazy, stupid, overpaid, or the "they only are doing it for the summers off" etc. Nobody immediately jumps on their shit...

So what exactly were the police supposed to do? Knock on the door and hope the people inside weren't bad guys with guns?

If they conducted a raid with an improper search warrant, there will be consequences. If not, shit happens. Call off the war-on-drugs if everyone's delicate sensibilities are hurt.

It doesn't matter, since you are none of those people.

As for the "condescending to another member of the armed forces" issue, you can have something to say about that if you ever become one of us.
