Default WTF is going on with Russia?

Are they just flexing their muscles, or are we going to get wrapped into another cold war? or worse? After hearing about russia planning on cutting ties with NATO today, Im starting to wonder what this is all about.

Another cold war? I don't think the last one really ended for either side.

Has anybody payed attention to Iran.

Look at the north border of Iran and the south border of Georgia and the south border of Russia.

I would say Russia has concerns about Iran and nukes.

Also Iran is not friends with Russia.

What i cant figure out is what the hell made Georgia think they could even remotely stand up to Russia. Can you say "pissed off a sleeping giant"!! Dumb asses! Not that Russia had to go into Georgia and blow the shit out of everything either, that was a bit overkill. But what the hell made Georgia think they could march into Osetia without consequences.

The only reasonable explanation is that Saakaszwili received some "promises" from US for his actions. Otherwise you would have to say he is insane.

That's the one bit of news most people miss - Georgia got feeling frisky and attacked Osetia.

We got no business telling Russia what to do - we should leave them be; we're getting a little too big for our britches, I think.

Exactly and no one seems to "report" that part. You have to have common sense enough to read between the lines of the bullshit to figure out, oh gee, why did Georgia go into Osetia. I believe Russia even warned the dumb asses not to do it and they did it anyways.

Wow.

I didn't know that Georgia started it. Funny how some stuff slips through the gigantic Michigan-roadway-sized cracks left by the media. All of the propaganda has been focusing on "evil Russia".

Equipped with this new knowledge, I, again, am in full agreement with ScOoTeR, in commenting that we think we are the world's Noon-aids.

Thanks for the info Magna!

I agree. Most people seemed to miss that part. I think if the USA had been in the same situation we would have done the same thing that Russia did and would have felt justified in doing it.

Georgia didn't go into South Ossetia... it was already their territory (but considered a autonomous region). Georgia was technically already there. Of course, the residents in South Ossetia didn't/don't consider themselves to be Georgians and welcomed the Russians but I don't think I would call Georgia the aggressor in the situation.

And considering that the U.S. Military has been conducting joint training exercises in Georgia with their military for about a decade, I can somewhat understand why they thought we might have their back.

I don't think that Georgia really had a choice but to try and stand-up to Russia when Russia came into South Ossetia. If they didn't stand up to the Russians, it could have set in their minds that nobody would stand up to them and they would just let them go wherever they pleased. Wasn't that one of the causes of WWII? (Germany taking back part of Bohemia or somewhere like that?)

I am glad someone knows more of the story.

If it weren't for Georgia already being in "possession" of Ossetia, the US would probably be remaining neutral in this case.

If Georgia did not stand up for itself, then Russia would definitley "abosrb" Georgia back into Russian control. It sounds like Russia wants another Soviet Union and Georgia would be, or is, the first state it wants to seize control of.

Yes, this smells of WWI
