Default Are these numbers right?

Wow, if these numbers are right it's pretty shocking. I say we leave, so our soldiers stop getting killed, and just warn them that if there is an attack of any sort then we will carpet bomb their entire country.

Why do you think carpets would deter them?

Yes. War is war, and is needed to keep the world at a safe level. Deaths happen. People who sign up for the military know what they are getting themselves into. If none of them wanted to be over there, nobody would sign up, and we would have a draft. At that point, could be bitch about the casualties.

Go complain about Vietnam.

We've been bravely bombing populations from 30,000 feet for 50 years, so?

Or how many people get killed every year in auto accidents or from murder in our country?

I didn't know we have killed that many people. If we keep going we'll just kill all of them and have a 51st state.

I have no argument against this as I agree with what you say.

My point was that comparing death statistics of different wars should never be any kind of measure of legitimacy for any war.

In other words, just because x number of people died during Vietnam does not make it OK that only x number died in Iraq. Gee, more died then, so this number is small and OK in comparison.

War is war. War sucks. People die. Soldiers (when there is no draft) choose to put themselves in harms way. Civilians do not.

Those that make the decision to wage war MUST do so for the right reasons, there is no margin for error on this point. History will remember the wrong choices.
