I was told $60,000 about a year ago, 6 months ago it was $30,000, at the x-mas party it was $10,000, and Jeremy just wouldn't understand that the site wasn't worth that, and could never be made profitable as it sat.
Bostondan is an internet "investor"
He purchased MJ because it has a high page hit and alexa rating. (alexa is an advertising ranking)
I correct myself, Jeremy sold MJ/AJ with stats pre-gl4x4. MJ/AJ is very slow now.
Bostondan originally said he purchased MJ because he wanted to keep it up and running. but very very shortly after this was posted, some links were put up to sites where BostonDan was talking about wanting to purchase a site with a high page hit site, he didn't care what site it was, just as long as he could advertise his other sites to make that "profit loop"
Bostondan is going to use that site as a portal for his advertisements for his other sites. Which is a very common thing to do, send customers in a circle loop between your own sites, and profit.
He is axing MJ, and is moving all the states to "AJ". There will be no more MJ or OJ, or VJ, or any other J.
IMO, this is idiotic. MJ was founded, and built around locals from Michigan, and by moving to a national system, it will loose ALL feelings of locality.
Obviously bostondan does not know about JU, or PIRATE, or the other national jeeper pages. An hours worth of research, and he could of realized he is about 5 years too late to make a country wide jeep site.
MJ was doomed from the day it was founded for profitability. But MJ was a great place to meet local people.
MJ appealed ONLY to michigan people who owned jeeps. That is not a wide enough market to make money on.
the whole AJ domains, including the states sold for $800.00.
Between Jeremy lying about loosing money, some power hungry mods deleting everything, and the new owner lying and saying he just purchased it because he wanted to get into offroading, I'm sure that many people have hard feelings towards that site.
I'm sure bostondan will be "involved" for a couple more weeks, and once people start posting there, he will venture off into a new purchase.
Just remember, that gl4x4 is ad free, fast, and appeals to the local audience. Hopefully this site will continue to grow. This site was founded by "wheelers" because we love offroading and is not here to make money, but is here to pick up the users of MJ, and merge together the great lakes region.
Even though I may come across as being an idiot, I'm not. GL4x4 is already self sufficient, in fact, we have over $300.00 in the account. (this is money donated by users here) Rather then renting a server to host it, I purchased a server, and leased out the space this site doesn't use. I make about 13 dollars a month off the server. But as GL4x4 grows, (and it has been very rapidly) I will have to either upgrade the server, or start putting limits on the other people hosting with me.
I will leave this thread open, as the last MJ thread here on GL.
Good Luck Re-Inventing the wheel Bostondan.
AND IF YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO IS STILL IN THE DARK ABOUT GREATLAKES4x4, PLEASE TELL THEM.

I'm guessing you will not find another website of this size, hell even with 200,000 posts or more that do not have advertisements on them. It doesn't happen, and the reason is NOBODY wants to lose money running a website. I do not need to rely on Gl4x4 for my income, but I do want to cover close to , if not all of the almost $880 (on average) in expenses per month to keep this site up.
Take that bit of information, then remember that the ads are HIDDEN and placed in the bottom of the webpage in order to get a page view count. The ads have been down there for 12 days, and the total income is now $1.47. Hopefully they send an armed guard with the check at the end of the month so nobody steals it from my mailbox.
FYI, as some know, this isn't the only forum I own. I have others, and the others have ads because when I purchased them they were already setup like that. Comparing those websites incomes and the traffic here, it is very safe to say that this website would bring in some major $$$ with ads on the top of the page. There is a reason that "big boards" sell for $50,000 - $100,000 on a regular basis, because the page views associated with them are an advertisers dream. But instead of putting up advertisements, I'm keeping this website ad free for members because I enjoy this site, and I HATE ads. I'm weighing the potential profit vs the annoyance. If you were to logout, you will see gl4x4 has ads, and that is what covers the costs to run the website. Some months I make money, some months I lose money, but its pretty much a wash.
I'm extremely sorry to hear that this website is "horrible" because of a pop up ad that appears to be active even though my contracts with both ad houses on the bottom state no pop-ups are allowed to appear. This has been taken care of, and hopefully you can live 18 more days with two small ads appearing below ANY relevant information that this website delivers to you.
It is amazing how much can change in just over two years.
