Well today i was towing a friend and needed more torqueso i put it in low range. when i was done I couldn't get the auto hubs to unlock. Long story short i broke a drivers side axle shaft. If any body has any Dana 35 TTB axle shafts for sale i would be in terested. everyone says that the "flimsy" auto hubs will break but aperently in this cas the staft broke. both shafts need replacing as both yokes and the u-jount caps are broken. I hear it is alot of work to replace the shaft any advice would be welcome i want to get it bone before things get cold.

PM HazardousRanger, he should still have a set of spare shafts that i sold to him.

Replacing the shafts are easy, just pull the hub off and remove the C-ring on the end of the shaft and it will slide out. This makes for a good time to repack wheel bearings too. The bearings tend to sieze to the spindle , i always grease mine up good.

Replacing the shafts are easy, just pull the hub off and remove the C-ring on the end of the shaft and remove the lock nut, take the caliper off. Be careful of the little keyway that locks the nut and it will slide out. Unscrew nut and remove rotor. Then their is 5 nuts (15mm i think) remove those then you have to get the spindle hub off and THEN you can slide the shaft out. This makes for a good time to repack wheel bearings too. The bearings tend to sieze to the spindle , i always grease mine up good.
Added a few steps you forgot

Also in order to "unlock" the auto Hubs, you need to go in reverse in 2wd. Cintrifical force is what locks the hubs in forward motion.

I went as far as i could in reverse (2wd), but there wasn't much room. like i said i tried to avoud this problem but shit happens, the shaft is broke and in the future i will have manual hubs so i dont have this problem again.

Fixed the axle and replaced the auto hubs with manuals. today i went over to daves house and he helped me fix the axle shaft and replace the hubs. i was glad he knew what he was doing. i have never had the chance to pull apart the front axle but i am sure with enough time i could have figured it out, but he alsl had the right tools for the job which made things alot easier too. Thanks for all the help dave.

unfortunatly in the process i found out i have a dana 28. that will change once i have the money.

Dana 28 could survive as long as you go easy on it. You could probably get a dana 35 fairly cheap. I have seen them for sale in the past on this board for <$100.

i like the warn hubs. arent the facotry dana 35 hubs made by warn too. it will have to last till this summer most likely. i dont think i will have the extra money till then. Most importantly the 4x4 has been restored. which means i should be set for this winter so long as i dont break somthing else.
