Default can someone explain the difference to pavementpounder?

He needs to learn the difference between a 4l60e and a 700r4.

You're right - I don't know the visual difference. I've never handled either of them before. Why did it take weeks for you to notice this?

I'll tell you why. Because you have a 700r4 in your own YJ and still don't know what they look like! You even called Tranny Tom while I was standing there next to it.

"The 700R4 was introduced in 1982 for use in Chevrolet/GMC vehicles.

In 1990 the 700R4 was renamed the 4L60.

1992 was the last year of wide spread useage of the 700R4 (4L60).

1993 Camaro, Corvette & Typhoon were equipped with the last production 700R4's, also the last design change of the 700R4 with an added checkball to the valve body.

In 1993 electronic controls were added and it became the 4L60-E. The 4L60E went into service in trucks, vans, and SUVs in 1993 and in RWD passenger cars in 1994.

In 2001 an updated version, the 4L65-E, was introduced. Five-pinion planetaries, along with a modified drum/input shaft assembly, were improved to withstand the 300+ ftlbf (over 400 Nm) of torque of the 6.0 Vortec engine." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turbo-H..._after_1990.29

also easy way to tell the difference is that the 700's will have a small square plug on the driver side of the tranny and a kickdown cable where a 4l60e will have a large round plug on the side and no kickdown cable.

700r4's have a removeable torque convertor cover (the sheild along the bottom) and the 4L60's have a round bell housing and only a small round cover in the very bottom of the bell housing.

700's have a TV cable, 4L60's don't. 700's have a 4 wire connector on the dr side. 4L60's have a bigger wire bundle with a round plug on the pass side.

Oops!! Didn't see the end of Kodiak's post which said the same thing I said. I'm a bad boy.......

Mechanic "A" should have paid more attention when costumer "A" dropped off said part "Y". Also Mechanic "A" was at Tigers game during said transaction and only heard every other word of the description over the phone.

Luckily Mechanic "A" had said part "X" in his garage. Now he needs another part "X"

I think you suck for not being able to identify the parts you needed when you already had one in your YJ to look at.

You said it yourself right here:
