I've got a crazy idea in my head of cannibalizing a D50 to build a 609. I'm pretty sure the D50 uses the same outer shafts (30 spline) and u-joints as a D60. Not positive yet, just got this idea this morning and havent worked out all the details yet.
But how would 30spl outers hold up to tires in the 38"-40" range with a locker and abused on rocks?
stock 30 spline outers are useless hunks of shit. i made jack stands out of mine. it ends up costing you twice the money when you break one than it does just to use 35 spline stuff everytime i broke one i took out the spindle and inner spindle bearings ( 110 bucks to fix plus the shaft) 35 slpine outeres can be bought for around 100 bucks and then you would need drive flanges.
what about alloy 30spl. i just dont want to upgrade to 35spl because i'd like to use as much other stock stuff as possible
