I just bought a cherokee and it has death wobble it's not lifted and has good tires.
I have already replaced the front shocks but still have the problem.
Where do i go from here? really need to fix this.
Most likely a bad or loose tie rod, drag link or track bar. Have someone wiggle the steering wheel back and forth while you watch the ends of these components for movement.
Something in the front end is loose or worn. Start there.
Ball joints.
Track bar
control arms
tie rods
wheel bearings
shocks
alignment
tires
Its one of those things. Usually a combination. And usually all take excessive wear while death wobbling. Just replace everything now, or everything piece by piece. Your choice.
Does anybody use the search function on this site? Literally once a week somebody asks this exact same question and the answer is always the same. Something is loose or warn in the front end.
It's more than likely the trac bar I had the same problem then replaced the trac bar and its home now you can get one at oriley for $55 that's the cheapest I found.
try wiggling a wheel and see what has play in it. or move the steering wheel back and forth while someone else watches the front end. should find it no problem
first off i wasnt degrading anyone. i was simply stating a fact. it happened to me. everything was replaced (even your bent rim and bad tire theory). second off...obviously you are smarter than the manufacturer. they just simply put them on there for looks. serve no purpose...right? :finger:
3 easiest things to check.... and will solve most DW
1. have a buddy turn the steering wheel while your tires are on the ground.... if your track bar moves left/right near the mount on the frame... time to replace
2. make sure both front tires are balanced
3. check your wheel bearings for wear... check your tire for play in 13-3-6-9 o'clock positions.
if you have death wobble and don't see anything loose, everything might be the slightest bit loose, a bunch of little parts with a little slop adds up to alot of slop
