So moved into a new house recently, and in the pole barn it is INFESTED with raccoons. Like 6+ raccoons. The barn had no doors on one side of it for a few years and they are in the walls and ceiling of the drywalled front half of the barn.
How should I go about getting rid of them? I have no issue with killing them.
I do not currently own any guns.
Put your garbage in it for a bait pile and hang out with your buddies until a few come out then shoot them if your buddies have a gun. Or the ol pipe and crow bar method.
aluminum bat works well, makes a nice ping if you miss, or a hellacious crunch if you don't.
Is there a color specturm raccoons don't see that you can use as a source of light to shoost them at night? If you were closer I'd come over with guns for an evening of fun.
That just seems unusually fucking cruel. I know people do it, but you have to be kind of sick in the head to do it that way. A bullet to the head is at least fast and relatively painless.
Get the live traps from places like TSC. Place a small bit of Fish in each. Once the coo s are trapped dispose of how you wish. Safest for all involved. ***** are mean as hell and if get in there and don't kill them they may attack you.
Racoons are one of the few animals whose favorite food is the leather and carpet from Dodge Durangos. They can not resist. Take it for what its worth. yer welcome!
Don't try and beat one to death with a shovel, I can promise you that it will take way longer than expected and is very tiring and traumatic for all parties involved. That shit gave me PTSD for a week.
A couple German Shepard's will work too. Or Malamutes, mine get a couple every year in my barn. Head shots are best, I put 4 or 5 rounds in the body of a large **** and he wouldn't die.
Father in law swear by draino sandwiches. It's a mix of peanut butter and draino on bread left in places they will find it. Obviously not good if you have other pets that could find them.
Poisoning animals is about the cruelest way to kill them. If live traps and relocation isn't an option, do them in as quick and clean as possible. No sense making them suffer.
If you go the live trap method then use marshmallows for bait. Anything smelly like fish, tuna, chicken, ect will attract cats, opossum, skunks ect. Marshmallows will only bring in raccoon.
Don't shoot them while they're in the cage, you could hit the cage and mess it up. Stand ready with a shotgun and have someone open the cage to let it out. Moving target makes it a little more fun and sporty.
I would ad that if the poison doesn't work quickly, it would give them the chance to go back into the wall before they die. Then you get to smell them rot. X2 on the live trap/water barrel. It's quiet and fairly cheap.
Lure them outside of the barn with rat poison & tuna fish. Make sure you close up the barn before they can get back in. That is if you want to kill them quick and simple. Not always the best solution, just an old polish farmer trick.
