why do we still refer to pickup trucks by 1/2, 3/4, and 1 ton? the payload capacities of todays trucks are far greater then these old time figures. a 1/2 ton can handle around a 1500 lb payload. a 3/4 ton can handle around 3500 lbs and a 1 ton can handle 4500 lbs single rear wheel or 7000 lbs in dually form.
