dodge ram springs make for a 5inch stretch but u gotta mout the shackles on the rear bumper.. also second gen chevy 54" springs equal out about the same but stick out farther then the dodge ones, so mounting them may be a bit easier... i used dodge 1/2 ton rears and remade my rear bumper outa 2x4x1/4 and pushed it all the way in against the rear crossmember stampd steel thing. just food for thought
Well thanks for the info! My rear springs are getting pretty soft so when it's time dodge springs will prolly be my pick. I will flip mine for the 4" stretch and get my body cut and finished up for now. Have to buy my air shocks yet for the front .
yea no probelm the dodge springs also seem soft under the cherokee but have no drive time to know for sure, my suggestion is not to cut as high as i did, just go about gas door cap high, mine is about 3inchs below the rear window and was a bit of work to fill it all in but will have plenty of room for tire clearance.
here is the start of my frame stiffners.. made them out of 3/16 3x3 tube cut one side off to make it a 3x3 C then drilled 1"1/4 holes for welding. these are about 3 foot long have alot more to make but its a start
whatd you use to clean up the "frame"? and yes the stock lower link mounts suck and i believe theres atleast 4 layers lol... next time i have to do it i will locate a plasma
The 3/16 plate melted in nice.. didnt know how well it would weld to the thinner parts of the stock frame, but none of it was an issue welded real nice dont think it will be that bad off a job to finish up..
i will drive this on the road so i think i will keep front sway bar. you can see in the pic above i moved axle foward about 2" by looking at the sway bar link angle. i will relocate them on the frame to accomodate the move forward.
In for finished build. This one of the best xj builds i've seen. Good work so far, and it's good to see a vehicle built not only to wheel well but drive the street well also.
Pounded out old races in the front hubs and pounded in the new ones. Most of the day was more like a clean up day. All the grinding and cutting has made a mess. Hope to get king pins all rebuilt this week.
