Default 2007-2013 Chevy Avalanche experience?

It's time for me to replace my beat to death 2000 Sonoma ZR2. I don't want another full on truck but I don't want an SUV either. With that being noted, it looks like an Avalanche suits my needs. Just wondering if anyone have any customer feedback on the 2007-2013 models. Is the 6 speed auto trans worth it? How are they holding up reliability wise? Any features that are a must have, any to avoid?

Personally, I can't attest. However, my FIL had one prior to the truck he has now and he loved loved loved that thing. I thought it was pretty neat the way it would open up to haul larger items and such. Had some cool features. I don't believe he ever had any major problem with it and he traded it in with around 170,000 on the ticker.

I am looking for a truck right now and have run across plenty on the Internet. I can say one thing, they are really overpriced for what they are. Even with high miles (which most seem to be). Especially when comparing them to regular/normal 4-door trucks of comparable years with way less miles. You can easily get more truck for less money than you can for the same with an Avalanche and, honestly, when you really compare them there isn't much difference between the two.

Just my $.02.

I wish I had 14 Jeeps, sadly though only 1 is disassembled right now

But it's been disassembled for over 10 years, so you have that going for you.

and with an avalanche he can go and pick up his new shocks, then he can take the super duty to tow the tub home, and then when the avalanche and the super duty break down he can bust out the old medium duty....and then when he cuts himself and needs a tetanus shot he can jump in the amberlamps and run himself to the hostable!

I bought a 2010 GMC sierra last spring. It has 5.3 with 6 speed. I really like the 6 speed. Towed my brother's LJ out to Moab and to Black Bear pass in Colorado and we averaged 10-11 mpg. In tow mode trans took a lot of load off the brakes. Daily driving I get 16-17 city. 20 mpg on road trips to Ky. Had 130,000 when I bought it and now has 155,000.

Wouldn't it be easier to photoshop a partially dismantled one in the yard?

Why the fukc would you need a superduty and an avalanche. Ever think about consolidating your fleet?

Let's do some inventory:

2000 rusty pos s10 DD
Jeep LJ ice cream dune cruiser
Jeep TJ in pieces
Super duty
Ambulance in unfinished state
Medium duty ridiculous linemans truck unfinished
Awesome purple big block Cherokee that used to be functional
Dodge cummins plow truck

You need an avalanche. Don't get something cool like a ranchero or el Camino.

El Camino can't safely transport kids some of the fleet might be going up for sale too

Other than trying to compensate for whatever is missing in your life....have you ever stopped to think about how ridiculously stupid it is for one person to own 4 different trucks that can all do the same damn thing?

If you want a daily driver, go buy a car that seats 4 gets good gas mileage and keeps miles off your truck....if your penis is big enough for that.....

sounds like you have plenty of other trucks, so considering the towing capacity was limited to 5,000 on most avalanche of that vintage might not be a problem. I had a 2004, it was a very flexible vehicle. I liked having the capability of 2 full rows of seats OR load a stack of plywood in it and keep it dry. Wont do both at the same time obviously, but you wont have to drive a crew cab long bed. The bed itself kind of sucks, its only 4' wide because of the saddle boxes, and its really tall, so difficult to get things in and out over the side rails. saddle boxes are a nice feature if you have a ton of shit to put in them.
In the end I got rid of it because it was a pile of shit. I dont know how that compares to the 2007+

I was looking at Avalanches for a while, the point has been made that a 4 door Silverado is more useful and cheaper.

I ended up buying a Camaro.

I won't beat on Skooter even though I agree with everyone else. Mostly because I have a shit ton of vehicles too.

I will say that my dads 2002 Avalanche has been VERY useful. He can fit a stack of 4x8 drywall in the back and completely seal it from the elements, we have done that a lot, it saved us when it rained a few times working on my old house. His towing stuff all goes in the saddle bags, and it rides better than a traditional truck. 10 chunks of wood? Drop the midgate slide it in and close the tailgate.

That said, he doesn't have kids, so it is easier for him to fold that back seat down for use.
