Gitche Gumee is back!

September 27-29th, 2013

This event is open to GLFWDA members only!

If you've never wheeled northern Ontario before this is your chance to see one of the most beautiful areas of North America. This trip is not your average weekend wheeling adventure. The trail is 40 minutes from civilization being prepared is key. Don't bring your rotted out broken down cj7 on bald tires, you WILL be left at camp.

Registration form can be found here: http://www.glfwda.org/showthread.php?13114-*******GITCHEE-GUMEE-2013-September-27-28-*******

Feel free to ask questions here.

Please don't delete it, just hitch a ride with Indy and Sara. :d:

On another note, for those arriving Thursday, I expect to get out Thursday mid morning for a bit of exploring. No times or promises at the moment, just letting you know. It will be a lame, boring ride through the woods.

I am very much looking forward to this! However I am keeping my fingers crossed I can make it. For the last couple of days I have been rapidly loosing sight in my left eye and this morning at the opthamologists office I found I have a condition that may require immediate medical attention. I am seeing a retinal specialist Monday morning, so fingers crossed!

You really only need one eye to go wheeling anyways :thumb:

And no, the irony of only being able to see out of one eye on national talk like a pirate day is not lost on me :sonicjay:

I am so looking forward to this.
I almost didn't make the trip due to breaking at the badlands last weekend. Good thing I have friends here in IN that had some extra D44 trac loc spider gears. I priced them at the Stealership for a whopping $659....WOW. Tricky little buggers to install.

I will be the helping last rig on Timbercruiser's trail runs.
33's, front locker, CB, trac loc rear and hopefully a working winch by then.

Plan change, we are heading up Wednesday night after work so if you hear banging and crashing on #47 after lights out you know who to blame!

And a strange thing happened. My 14 yr old says "Dad, Algebra isn't as easy as I thought, I don't think I can miss 2 days of school right now." What has gotten in to kids these days?

So my +1 is now my Dad, who does not have homework to worry about.

Oh yay you get to come. I have an awesome retinologist. The eye surgeries aren't very painful but having one eye dilated for over a month stinks. Someone wouldn't let me have a patch which is what I really wanted. I was going to bedazzle it. I have had 3 retina surgeries and another unrelated eye surgery.
You guys are forgetting to tell new people about the little ovens. I am starting to plan our menus. I have to one up Shawn's cinnamon buns.
I am already thinking grilled cheese and splitting a soup. Breakfast burritos. I was thinking if i could find tins small enough Mac and cheese. I still have more days to plan but it is true that having a hot meal is fantastic

For those you you who might be scratching your head about now...........
Lunchbox stoves:

http://www.amazon.com/RoadPro-12-Vo...id=1379769383&sr=8-1&keywords=lunch+box+stove

They reach somewhere near 300*. Their great for heating up soup in a can, but you must remember, when heating a closed container, you can only cook it for so long...........then BAD things happen :teehee: We'll let Kerry tell the campfire story on that one.

These can be picked up at most any truck stop and I've recently seen them in Walmart and Meijer in the camping section. Going price is around $25+/-

Previous meals that have come out of these types of stoves include:
Hamburgers, hotdogs, philly swiss and cheese 'samwiches', all sorts of soups and chili, brownies, cookies and the current reigning champ.......cinnamon buns by Shawn.

However we musn't forget that Sara one-ups most all of us. Her and Indy bring a FULL SIZE 120V crock pot which has been in the past filled with white bean chili. Mind you this thing takes up the entire back seat. Indy has an invertor that runs the pot all morning long.

Dianne has premade pulled pork or pulled chicken with BBQ sauce & then we let it simmer in some aluminum foil till lunch time. :thumb: We've also done hot pockets and other types of microwave precooked munchables.
I've also failed miserably on a couple frozen things that actually needed cooking. :(
