Tig welding pin holes on a gas tanks sucks ass. If you tig them a2 bronze rod is the best option. It is basically brazing rod meant for welding. You don't need the heat to make it melt that you would with standard er70s. Second choice for me would be 316 ss rod which will actually fill dirty holes better than er70s. I always back purge tanks with argon so I don't blow myself up also. The one time I didnt backpurge the tank had been sitting empty on a shelf for a long time with no cap on it. It flamed up and burned my neck hair. After that I have always purged.
