I'm finally fed up with gas prices (PIC)

I drive about 30K miles per year, and although I love having the room and versitility of my 5.2 98 ZJ (my DD), I have been looking at what I have been spending in gas. It's a lot!

So, I got myself a Geo Metro. It's not new, but I am sure has plenty of life left in it. It was cheap, and by my calculation it will pay for itself in 3 months max.

This car is the most "foriegn" car I have ever owned. It will take some getting used to, but my wallet will love it.

So, who else have finally "thown in the towel" with gas prices and have downsized?

I guess I'm doing just the opposite.
I'm selling my DD saturn because I'm moving to a chevy Tahoe. Biggest part for me was the safety of my family. When it's "your time to go, it's your time to go" but at least I know if that does happen, they had a better chance in a bigger vehicle in a crash. Plus, 2 adults and 2 kids in an SL2 is a little tight :sonicjay:

Safety was my major concern for the change. Plus it's nice having a DD that can tow and haul the kids.

I am not fed up with gas prices because i only fill up my xj once a week since my commute downtown isnt bad at all. I am however fed up and done with pumping gas. Yesterday I had a horrible day because of having to stop at the gas station. I pulled in the gas station to fill up and when i stepped out of my jeep it was into a huge puddle of gas. I had gas on my shoes and on my nice suit pants. It was horrible.
So... from now on mschaffer pumps my gas every Sunday. He almost always does it, but he will get no breaks from now on :tonka:

I think my xj gets terrible gas mileage but getting it for as cheap as I did, and having no car payment or full coverage insurance makes up for it. :woot:

what irritates me about the fuel prices is the economy. our elected officials allow prices to continue to go up, however i do not get a "fuel cost increase" raise nor a cost of living raise when retail products go up because of fuel costs. the economy sux balls so there are no raises.

Exactly what powers do elected officials have that would allow them to directly control the price of an international traded commodity? The last thing you want is MORE government involvement in controling and setting prices. The only thing that can ever result from increased government intervention is higher prices. It has been proven time after time after time.

I get more irritated at the differences a few miles make. At work, I pay 10-15 cents more a gallon than at home. its only 24 miles apart!!

It's bullshit. Whats even more bullshit are diesel prices right now. go down to i 94 and you will pay anywhere from 3.13-3.30 a gallon. its near 4 dollars in the brighton area right now!!

demographic and what people can or will pay. richer areas pay more cause they will accept more of an increase.

I posted a thread on another forum asking the Q, at what cost would the price of gas need to go before you did something 'life altering' (like selling/parking your present car and buying an econobox). Most people missed the point. Gas prices suck because from one day (sometimes less than that) to another you can't 'depend' on what the price is gonna be. IE: $2.99 in the morning, $3.29 in the afternoon.
... why dd a friggin' truck if you don't need to...
That was me when I owned my 1996 F150. After three years of commuting 35 miles per day (at 16 mpg), I said wtf, and bought a 2002 Z24. Bingo: 30 mpg. Disclaimer: I really miss my 1985 Escort diesel...54mpg. I would buy one tank a month.
One nice thing about being retired.
Yep, I with ya bro. I fill up 1.5 times a month. Unless I gotta check on my dad who live in Tecumseh. That kills the 'fixed income' budget.
im gona get a saturn or something and put the jeep on one of those seasonal insurance plans.
Oh...No. There's too much junk parked in the streets in our 'hood already. I love my neighbors who have four friggin' pickups all parked in the street.
Im an American I drive the biggest gas suckinest vehicle I can find. I eat red meat and drink like a fish. I support all the unions that make all my purchases of American products outragious.
Well I agree on one of your three sentences.

Why not get a car the runs on Compressed air?
http://www.theaircar.com/

I'm not sure if it's that car, but there is a company in France that is goign to be selling them in the us for like 45-4600. We've been thinking about actually looking at one. Right now I have my Explorer and we have my wife's Escort. Both are very good cars and the Escort get's 25-30 MPG. The Ex get's about 15-20. Let's just say I don't drive the Ex when I don't HAVE to. And I might be getting a bike to ride to work in the spring. 10 miles really isn't that far. Maybe a half hour of riding.

I was driving my 2001 Club cab 360ci 4X4 Off-Road Ram everyday at a cost of about $100 a week in fuel:( 10-12 mpg anytime of year. A little over a year ago I gave in and bought a 2000 Buick LeSabre (commonly called the grandpa grocery getter by my friends) It's considered full size by the insurance co. so It's $500 a year cheaper for insurance, the tires are only $50 a piece compared to $200 for the Ram and I can go two weeks on $60 worth of fuel:thumb:.28-30 mpg summer 24-26 mpg winter avg. But now Friends call me Grandpa. :gman:

Back in '05 when I was working at the Marathon refinery I was spending $200-225 a week on gas driving the Ram. I picked up a older saturn from my Dad that got avg. 34 mpg and saved myself $125-150 a week. Drove that thing until last summer when I picked up a liberty which uses more gas but I like it better. I am keeping the saturn around just in case I need to drive an econobox again.
