Why doesn't 2-Penny Jenny just put a giant CLOSED sign at every entrance into this state?

TRAVERSE CITY - At the height of summer outdoor recreation season, Michigan is closing 20 state forest campgrounds at least temporarily because of the tight budget.

The campgrounds mostly are in the northern Lower Peninsula and eastern Upper Peninsula. Closing them will enable the state's Recreation and Trail Program to absorb a $75,000 cut, the Department of Natural Resources said Friday.

The closures take effect Monday and continue through the remainder of the 2007 fiscal year, which ends Sept. 30. Whether they will reopen next year will depend on funding, said Jim Radabaugh, state trails coordinator.

"To be forced to limit any outdoor experience has been a very difficult decision for the department," DNR Director Rebecca Humphries said in a statement.

State forest campgrounds are different from campgrounds in state parks, many of which provide modern amenities such as electrical hookups for recreational vehicles. The state forest campgrounds are more rustic and suitable primarily for tents.

Despite the closures, an additional 118 state forest campgrounds will remain open.

How about we kick the crack whores, baby factories, and lazy asses that don't attempt to work off of public assistance? Force these dumb F***S back to work and stop letting them suck off the system. Then those of us that pay these freaks welfare checks may actually see some benefits. Better yet, we reward them for keeping their legs together and NOT having more kids that they can't support. If ya can't feed 'em, don't breed 'em. Then there is the whole reorganization of the DNR from the top down. That could save a ton of money and generate some honest revenue for the state.

$75K in savings....... I'm willing to bet that its going to cost more to reopen these parks for the public than the $75K THAT THEY ARE SAVING........

Besides its a well known fact that if the parks are not used by the public in a certain amount of time, the State of Michigan can, will, does and has sold off the park's property for $$$$$BIG$$$$$ to development companies for condos subdivisions and other ugly misuses of the state lands....

FUCK JENNY and her MOLE!!!!

I don't see how this even saves money. It's not like they have to do much maintenance. Now, rather than have a guy drive by once a day to collect any camping fees and make sure theres paper in the out houses the same guy will have to drive by once a day to make sure no one snuck in and is camping for free.

Probably, but that wouldn't help get more support for a tax increase like closing things will.
