I think it's about time these are commercially available. Unfortunately, the time I would use one much was about ten to fifteen years ago. I still want one, although my current shape (round) isn't ideal to start riding one in. If I put some miles on my standard type mtn bike soon, I'll probably look into getting one.
Peddle is the act of trying to sell something.
Pedal is what you do to a bike to make it go.
Before SS quotes this post, I will note that there are multiple definitions of each of these words, and the definitions may be slightly more complex... but I dumbed things down for you dummies. The point here is you never "peddle" a bike, unless you're selling it.
They are here to stay, I think salsa is working on a carbon frame now. They are so impractical to maintain. Tires alone are over $100 for one tire. My 29er tires are that price for both. I suppose once more companies jump on to building them prices will come down and they may be worth it then. I want one as well but just can not justify the price for something that will be risen for a few weeks in the fall and spring/end of winter.
How tough are the tires on these? Are they susceptible to stick punctures? I think they would be great on the all sand trails around here, as long as they don't have puncture issues often. It's been a little while since I looked into them much, but everyone seemed to only care about the snow performance, and worry about punctures in the summer months, although I heard no real world reports.
Not much different than a normal mountain bike tire.
Essentially you have 1 ply tires (Cross country, cyclocross, normal people riding, etc.) and you have 2 ply tires (DH Racing and Freeride). These tires fall in under the normal category, they're reasonably tough and flats aren't much of an issue.
1200 for something I'm goign to be riding in the Michigan salt and snow, no thanks. My 350 dollar Trek does just fine in the snow. $1200 is alot of money but really not all that much for a bike. I come from a Road bike background and those things get spendy very quickly. Of course, Mine doesn't see any snow, salt, or, if I can manage, rain.
I got it 5 years ago at Walmart in the clearance aisle for $40, because the pedals were missing.
Note- the pic isn't mine, I don't have any pics of it uploaded for some reason so I found one of the Manta Ray. Mine's identical except for the Bruins sticker.
It's a ball and a half to ride, I usually take it to Woodweird cruise or Gratiot.
I heard that mongoose is going to come out with a single speed fat tire bike for something like $300. Its going to be sold through Walmart. Nope, its not a Surly or even close, but I bet you'll start seeing a lot more of them out and around for that price, with WM distribution.
I'd roll a pugsley or moonland in a second. Anytime you could get out on a decent day in the middle of the winter, or a spin the beaches, is a good day.
Where the shit is part two? Did they make it useable? The suspense is killing me!
