today i was plastigaging, ringing and putting in my pistons. tightening the cap nuts with 35lbs torque wrench, i didnt even hit 35lbs and the socket shattered into my FRESHLY MACHINED AND CLEANED block.
ive got the 3 main peices out, but there are still tiny ones. what to do. what to do.
ah eys... and yet another of Leanz threads goes straight to the gutter...
I would make some comment about that picture of you and your "young cat" but I'll just say...
That sucks about the broken socket, and ditto on using a magnet to try to get the peices out. Or maybe what you really need is a small tube attached to a shop vac to try to suck them out. (nothing :naughty: intended)
really sorry about your mishap. you might want to send a pm to killerB he builds engines all the time and might have a trick for you. on another note very nice body and cute cat.
just my input.
I hate Crapsman sockets. They tend to strip bolt heads, Span-On is a better socket IMO. BTW why were you using a 12 pt. on a 6 pt. fastner? That is if it was a 6 pt bolt.

I normally use my 3/8" drive, and 1/2" drive craftsman sockets with an impact wrench, stupidly long breaker bars etc, have yet to break a socket, and I abuse the hell out of them.
If your having issues with bolts rounding out, you may want to use the correct sized socket :Stan:
