@liv2mx

He is running a single ended ram, pretty sure a stock 5.3 truck pump and no cooler and doesn't have any issues. He told me a bit about it, but I'd rather he chimed in.

According to the numbers on my orbital I have a 9.7 cubic inch open center, load reactive orbital?
Based on what I read, my orbital needs at least 4 gpm..6 is better. Well I believe the stock pump is only good for 2.4-2.8. So no wonder I gots issues.
I tried modding the pump like Texas speed says to try..works a little better but much.
psc sounds like they can deliver more fluid and better pressure.

Woot..just answered all my own questions, it's like talking to myself. ;)

I would talk with howe and psc before buying a pump. Chances are they aren't going to be able to get you a 200% volume increase. I haven't heard of many people having issues with the stock 5.3 pumps. Do you know anyone with another pump you can throw on? Here's more information than you'd ever want to know about power steering pumps:

Well since this steering setup is working well for John, Kyle, n beefy..I'm going to get a stock, older style gm pump and install it in the 6.0 case.
Before I spend 2bills on one that may not work. :)
Those flow 3.1-3.5 gpm at 1200rpm. ..the one now is lots less gpm at same rpm.
Worth a 40.00 shot and 20 mins if work. .;)

731-0118 is the part number for the pump that's in there right now. ..stock 6.0 pump.
The one I'm planning on 'trying' is my old trail gear pump from my hydro assist. That part number is a 7830247. Cannot find any information in either In the steering bible, google, or a few other spots on pirate. .

What is the actual problem with your setup? Mine leaves some to be desired when it's hot, but then again I have yet to plumb in a cooler, and I'm running trans fluid which likes to foam.

mine gets hot in about 3 mins, doesn't foam cause I'm using tractor hydraulic. when it gets hot it doesn't want to steer so good, and it slows down. so I figured I'd do some looking, and found out my pump is a slooowww gpm compared to the older style gm pumps. figured for the 50 bux a new pump is I could swap it and have a little better steering.
I have a cooler, it helps but not a lot.

long story short, just looking to improve the steering. it would probably work fine for a while but the heat is going to kill the pump for sure.

well test run at Rocks and valleys went well. Need to get used to longer wheel base, gotta sliiide over stuff a little more. steering with the new pump worked great, no issues. UNTIL...I bent the shaft for the cylinder. so I took that opportunity to talk with Kevin Jackson from PSC, he said that setup would work a lot better with a larger cylinder. itll make the steering a bit slower, and reduce heat in the system. SO...last night I upped it to a 2.5" single ended, double acting cylinder, FREE!!!
we will see how that works.

I have yet to investigate my 14bolt.... I think that it may be bent? Front to back. quick measurement shows that the tires are 3/4" closer together at the front than the back. One of my axle seals, just started SUPER leaking fluid after Saturday.

try to check that out this week.

Looks like you were about to lose the pin on your knuckle? Or did you pull the clip prior to the pic?
