Just wondering on the difference's of these Transfer cases? My 1991 s15 Jimmy has a np231c in it, and I can only seem to find other Np231's in Jeeps. I can however, find many np233's in S10's. I was in need of a new vacuum switch for my 4WD, so I went to the local scrapyard and snagged one off a 95 S10, NP233 Tcase. I was just kinda of wondering the difference between the two Transfer cases.
I think i've got it figured out. From what I can understand the 233 is just electronically shifted, and a higher spline count. The 231 is manual shift, and lower spline count. However, are there any pros to the 233? Is the ONLY difference that it is electronically shifted, meaning to hole in the floor, and I'd have to have an adapter to my 700r4? Just wondering if there's really any point to swapping to this tcase.
My understanding is that is just the electric shift variant
Idk why you would want to switch to an electric shift case
I think @wadey would know more about this
Okay, thanks. That's what I had originally thought. I didn't see a point to it either. Just seems the 233 is a new version. However, I don't really care for an electronic shift tcase.
233 is electric shift and many times the 231 will have a wider chain as well. we took the innards from a 231hd and swapped them my 233 when I was still running it. it also gave me a solid yoke on the front side (sye)
