I guess I'll try to explain this the best I can. My girlfriends 2003 F150 won't go into 4x4 unless you turn the wheel all the way to the right at a dead stop and hit the gas. Sometimes it even takes a few trys and only works about 60% of the time. I've tried everything including putting it into neutral before switching it into 4 wheel and nothing happens. Its got that bullshit switch on the dash for the 4x4 with the stock auto locking hubs. Any ideas what could be causing it to not want to engage? I'm use to the old manual lock outs and floor shift 4x4 so don't know much about this stuff. Its got 235k miles so I'm guessing something is starting to wear out?
is the tcase going in but the front end is not? that would be my guess. if so just do yourself a favor and install some superwinch manual hubs on it. they are cheaper and better than OEM. then you will have manual hubs that you have to lock in just like 'ol days.
I don't know much about newer 4wd systems, but you can hear it click. As far as the ABS light goes I'll have to get back to you on that. I just doesn't seem like the front end wants to lock in for some reason.
x2 my expedition had the same problem. they work off of vaccume, there are relays and all the vac lines pass side fender by the power box. very rarely do the tcases have issues of not going into 4wd in my experiance. start with making sure the actuator is free and can move then hit 4x4 and pull the vac lines and make sure one has vac. also if those get swapped around at the actuator, when you hit 4x4 the front end actually disengages, ask me how i know haha 4 hrs of being stuck. if you need help let me know ive delt with those alot. and im right in hartland i can come help you
